many times i've edited pictures that i wanted to share with everyone but they're just too big- and it feels awful to shrink them down. so- i thought why not make a thread for people to post wallpaper type pictures for people to view, and if you want use as wallpaper (that's what i do).
to start with, here's a picture from the reef tank at the Aquarium of the Pacific:

Thanks Greg. It really has surpassed my 29g as the crown jewel of the living room. I need to do something about my 29g!

Everyone that has been over this week has told me the tank is completely full and has no room for another thing! :D

That is Steveweast's tank. He's got a heck of a thread that covers all the details. Nice big image!

The one thing you don't see is his herd of Rose BTAs. But look at that beautiful sand. He vacuums it weekly, and it is only 1" deep.

The tank is 84" from the front to the back, and he's successfully caring for 2 purple gonioporas. It really deserves Tank Of The Year.

this was made with a Canon 10D and 100mm macro lens. lucky for me this crab was hanging out right in the front of the tank.

here is my wallpaper, my yellow watchman goby. This is my favourite photo so far. I love using grey back ground with this fish otherwise his color doesnt show up really well and get lost in the picture. ericriff

Thanks melev. The anemone was huge! I cant find a full picture of it but there were two full grown clowns hosting in it and they looked tiny in comparison. The lady working at the zoo said the clowns were around 10-14 years old, so i'm assuming that the anemone was just as old possibly older. Here are two more pictures if anyone is interested.

Gary may be right, but the shape of the white stripe is what made me think it was a Percula.

http://tinypic.com/xy2h0
i got way 2 much time, xmas break has already gotten to me lol, and so you know the inside is all newspaper, not aluminum foil, my mom would kill me if it was!! and theres 115 pennies inside of that, 1 penny for each letter of all the song names combined

What's a good size for wallpaper?

melev
12/20/2004, 12:39 PM
It should fit your current desktop. Or if you have a smaller shot that is amazing, it can be centered on your screen.

How about this. I reduced it a bit in order to get it to upload to photobucket. It's the wallpaper on one of my work computers now.

night time shots can be not so easy. you did a great job with that shot. did you use a tripod? settings?

melev
01/01/2005, 02:19 PM
Greg, you know me..... what's a tripod! What I did was press the camera lens against the window to keep it steady.

f/2.8
ISO 160 (lowest setting on my camera, might be 50 on an equivalent)
Shutter Priority set to 1 second duration
Exposure Compensation set to 0.

Very close to what I normally shoot anyway, just SP instead if AP mode. I took about 5 of these, but that was the best one.

gregr
01/15/2005, 12:11 PM
that orange one is from a friends tank.
i have a black one that i'm nursing back to health. it's in the refugium because it's easy to reach- i'm feeding it every single day and the flesh is spreading well. it was down to only a few mouths and no flesh anywhere else.

Greg

melev

I was pleased with them. I had the lights turned on that night, just so I could show the sun coral, but it closed up quite a number of polyps since the lights were on. These were the open ones. :p

incysor

Very nice.....FWIW, my suncorals have gotten used to the lights being on, and they just come out around the 'normal' feeding time.

Kayla, how on earth did cyano bacteria get a chance to grab onto your seahorse? You might consider using Boyd Enterprises' ChemiClean to erradicate that stuff.

Actually, cyano is commonly found on seahorses--both in the wild and in captivity--due to their need for very little flow. Interestingly enough, my other horse does not have a hint of the bacteria anywhere on him, nor is it present in the rest of the tank. However, cyano has proven to be harmless to seahorses, and it does not affect the them in a negative way.

What do they eat? I don't feed this tank anything since there is zero filtration. Just a circulation pump, and a 50% water change (water from my reef tank) every three days. I do dose a little phyto for the clams, but they filter that out pretty quickly.

Heavydc2
07/04/2005, 06:10 AM
speaking of sexy shrimp, this is my wallpaper, although it is downsized a little. They will eat flake, and they pic off the rocks. I would bet that they would do fine in your tank. they would probably get some of the phyto, and whatever critters are on the rock. They are only 1/2-3/4in big.

Hey Melev!

That is a nice Pico. By the way I just finished a canopy for my 30g and used your design from this link:

The front is soo cool how it comes off and slides into place.....good stuff. Thanks for helping a fellow reefer!!!

I've tried photobucket.com but I still have to shrink the file to smaller than 150x150 or something like that...

I just bought those pink zoanthids for my Pico Greg. They look great!

These are great shots, but for some reason a number of them on the last page alone are normal sized. This is the wall-paper thread, basically. BIG pictures. ;)
