I have a couple baby bimacs (3/4" mantles) and I've been feeding them baby clams thus far (the last week or so). I added a few small blue-leg hermits, and one of the bimacs flew over, grabbed one, and started shoving its tentacles deep into the shell. It stayed like this for over an hour.

My question is, are the bimacs capable of pulling out the crab, or are they just trying to because they're too young to know better?

no, they can do it.. they eventually manage to bite the crab and inject venom killing it
