View Full Version : red Macroalgae ID needed

I received this macroalgae from another reefkeeper in the URS about a year ago and placed it in my lit sump/refugium. I just discovered some of it growing upstairs {in my main viewing aquarium} on top of a powerhead! What is it?

Are all Dictyota species members of Phaeophyta {brown algae}? I thought this algae would be a member of Rhodophyta {red algae}....:confused:

they come in green even blue!

i'm not kidding. even though they are Phaeophyta that doesn't mean they're all brown. maybe it's a really reddish brown... HAHA :D

Thanks for those links, MarLooney. The appearance of the Dictyota in the links you've provided sure is very similar to mine. I wonder why they don't show a red species on algaebase?
