I have ordered two Ice Cap thermostat controlled fans from Marine Depot. One of the fans work fine, the other doesn't work. I called MD and they said to contact Ice Cap. I said no and that I wanted to MD to replace the fan. They sent me a replacement that still doesn't work. What's the deal with these fans? Why do some work and others do not? I can say that the fan that does work has a completely different AC adapter. Thoughts? I'm getting irritated with the uncustomary quality of the fans. I will be calling MD once again and requesting a replacement.

I have them and they seem loud. I thought the sensor would be nice but I wouldn't bother now
I would just get some cheaper ones at a computer store. Ask for the quietest ones the have. I would just have them go on and off with the lights and your fine. Why do you need a sensor when the heat is there when the lights are on.

I have a velocity pump (used to have 3 now just 1) and they pour a lot of heat into the tank. I have the fans on there to cool the tank via evaporation. I used to have a chiller but I pulled it out and the velocity pump along with switching out another velocity pump from my skimmer. This eliminated the chiller. I have two fans on a timer which works great so long as the house is at a constant temperature. I like the Ice Cap temp sensor fans because the RPM's adjust based on temp. However, the drawback is that the one I do have is always on. I guess I'd rather have a slighter cooler tank than one that gets too warm. The tank isn't in the greatest location (upstairs and faces west) but it's in a place where it gets stared at a lot! :) I bought two of the cheaper fans through Marine Depot and those are as quiet as the Ice Cap but they aren't always on. I'm still indifferent on whether I like the always on or not. The sensor is simply nice because it can react to the house being hot whether the lights are on or not.
