I Just got my first clam, a 1½" blue maxima and my LFS gave me a small container of phyto to feed it with. I cut the top off of a small soda bottle, put it over the clam when feeding and squirted some phyto in the bottle, replacing the lid. I'm not sure how much phyto to give this little guy at a single feeding. Also how long will the phyto last in the refrigerator? I think it was DT's brand. How do you know when it in not good anymore and to discard it?

Use enough to turn the water around the clam green. Usually about 5 or 6 ml. If you shake the container about 2 or 3 times a week, it should last for months. When it goes bad, you will know it. It does smell. I don't think you have much to worry about. If you feed your clam every day to other day, you will use all the DT's berfore it goes bad, and just using it will "make you shake" enough.
