Were the clams showing signs of stress?? Gapping?? Bleaching??

The clams could of died over night from the stress of changing enivorments. They could of died and the fish made a meal of them. I have seen fish that normally won't touch a clam while it is alive. But as soon as they died then they are food.

If you look around the rock wall. You will probably find the other shell.

Well... when clams died.. they actually kind of melt. There tissue starts to become slimey and water soluble.

The tissue disappears quickly. In matter of hours..

Yes...but there would be traces of disolved organics. Have you tested your water?

not lately. the blue maxima is thriving now. So maybe it just got stress out, I am trying to find a good source of clam here in ILLINOIS and some of them sell their baby clam for $45 which I think is a little steep.
