Will tangs eat the chaetomorpha the way they do the caulerpa? And will they get the nutriants they need from it?

Hey Kelly,

I think it depends on the species of tang whether or not it will eat chaetomorpha. Sprung says that surgeonfish will eat chaetomorpha but I don't know if that means all will or just some will. Tangs are omnivores that eat other foods besides algae so be sure to offer other foods besides algae.

My tang does. But not nearly as fast as he attacks gracilaria.

Actually the chaeto in the display keeps getting bigger and bigger even with the eating. Whereas a 12" diameter gracilaria "bush" was devoured on about two weeks.
