I got a squamosa about a week ago and have had him on the sand bed. I have PC lighting, 260 watts. He seems to be happy, but I'm now wondering if I should have placed him higher up in the LR. Also, can someone tell me where I can find pics of healthy vs. not healthy clams, gaping vs. not gaping. I'm a little confused on the gaping.
Thank you.

How deep is the tank and how many gallons? That will help you decide if he should be raised.

75 gallons, 20" deep w/ about a 3" sand bed. Lights are about 1" off the water, sepparated by glass.

Hmmm...that's probably right on the line. I'd raise him up ad see if he will accept it......some will jump back down to the sand.

my rock work is pretty steep, if he jumps he may not like the fall. do you recommend any type of placement?

Can you arrange a place for him that is flat or that he could be situated between two ledges?

I have a spot, low current right? Should I arrange a smaller rock for his foot to attach to?

It's probably hit or miss for him to attach, as it's usually the smmler clams (maxima and crocea) that attach a lot.

Yes, Low flow is pretty good. As long as his mantle isn't flappingn around the flow isn't too much either.
