St. Thomas ricordia?

This is my first post, and I have heard good things about the wealth of info here, so please don't let me down....

Anyone ever heard of a St. Thomas ric? I purchased one today, very beautiful, I'll try to post pix after acclimation, but I haven't been able to find ANY info online about it.....

please help, any info is appreciated.

They really are not any differant then any other carribean ricordea that you will find off Florida and Haiti....

Thanx for the welcome, Azurel. This site has some unbelievable information available, on everything except what I am currently looking for!! I was kinda hoping for some more info from other people here that may have more varied experience......

The only reason they call it a St. Thomas ric is because of the location it was gatherd. There are only 2 species of Ricordea in the oceans..Ricordea Floridia and Ricordea Yuma. Floridia is a carribean sp. that is found through out the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding waters. I have had many and still do have many rics, the are my favorite mushroom. Although there mightbe slight variations they all have the same general look to them. like this pic.....This is a little bubblier version of a Florida Ricordea.....

Robu- Did you take a picture of your st. thomas ric yet? I'm curious about these too. A friend mentioned that I have St. Thomas ric and didn't realize it, but I can't find any info on them either.

Agreed. It's a Caribbean Discosoma Sanctithomae.

Alright, what does a st. thomas ricordia look like then?

I think I figured out the answer...thanks to DEQBob. I believe the name of this coral is Discosoma Sancti thomae. Which some reefers have come of up with the common name of "St. Thomas Ricordia". Although not technically a ricordia, it does have the raised polyp structure. It is a beautiful and uncommon coral.

Here are some I got two months ago. They get fed weekly directly, and eat some that falls to them daily. Here they are open.

They love light and flow. They look their best in sunlight like some clams. Blue light tends to wash them out a lot.

I have seen these for sale on ebay. Type in "live coral" and look through the listings.

I believe there was a ricordia named the St. Thomas Ricordia as well. It was sold by Tropicorium and was just named that because thats where it was from. It was pretty, but looked a lot like most ricordia florida.
