These two pictures aren't from my tank but they have gorgonians in them. I took these photos while diving in Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras this past May.

Gorgonian with Seahorse:

Gorgonian with Flamingo Toungue. If you look closely you can see where the Falmingo had eaten the flesh of the gorgonian leaving a trail of exposed skeleton behind.

Nice pics, ever frag your gorgonians? I'm going to give it a few months but then I'm going to cut a few branches, any pointers?

Yes I do frag my gorgonians. I sell them to local fish stores in my area. I just cut off the arms and wedge the arms into a small hole in a small piece of live rock. Then I put the frag in an area of high flow in my frag tank and the gorgonian encrusts over the rock in about 1 week.

i've had great success. i have two different kinds.. the one pictured above and an 'ultra purple gorg' from the gulf of mexico. i feed them every other day and they've been growing well for almost a year!

What do you feed them? Phyto? Do they take cyclopse (sp)?

I'm curious as to what you feed them as well.

the blue died when i moved it into a cave to get it out of the light. there wasn't enough current in the cave. i'll get another one someday, but only after i have a spot already set up for it. they yellows still doing good. i've also got a yellow finger gorg (yellow w/ white polyps).

I alternate every other day between: frozen brine soaked in selcon, DT's Phyto, Zooplankton & formula 1 flakes pureed with selcon.

Works like a charm :)

they are in high flow areas, and dont get much light.

also, i've fragged them several times with 100% survival!!!

every once in a while some algae starts growing on them. i just use my hand to rub it off, or use a soft tooth brush.

Do you target feed, or is that what you feed your entire tank?

xcreonx
08/25/2004, 06:17 AM
target feed with a baster, which also feeds the rest of the tank. just gets the gorgs first.

I'm w/ PapFunk, *** are those man!?!? Non-photosynthetics?

Picked up this one at Tropicorium this Spring, so far so good...

Sorry for the bad pic, but it's hard to photograph the subject where I've got it placed.

papafunk & ReeferMac, the blue one is a BSF - Blue(berry) Sea Fan "Acalycigorgia sp." i'm not sure what the yellow one is yet.

zrograviti, very nice pic. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

I feed mine photplankton and cycolpeeze. I just mix my phytoplankton product with the cyclopeeze and target feed them with a turkey baster. They love it. Polyps get super fat and puffy after a feeding.

Beautiful gorgs!

I wish I could have them, but my yellow tang finds them tasty. I had one for about a week and he had stripped about half the flesh off, so I gave it to a fellow reefer. :)

Hey Gary, I've seen that yellow polyp gorg before. What's its deal, is it photosynthetic? Doesn't look to be...

Oooh, nice gorgonians! I only have 1 so far.

I don't know if anybody else has experienced this, but my arrow crab climbs up into the gorg at night and sways with it in the current to blend in. My hermits also love to climb up in it and just hang in its branches for days on end.
