I have tried my emperor in my main display tank with me 4 teardrops and I was totally nervous and out of my mind. But that was a few months ago and everything was going good until I noticed my croceas werent opening up all the way....so I started to watch and my emperor is nipping at them and my derasa....I have yet to see him hit my teardrops but Im sure it's a matter of time if he hasnt already. Does this nipping and not allowing the clam to fully open cause death eventually? Im hoping Barry or others with experience can chime in on this.
Thanks

In the meantime he now resides in my smaller FO tank.

Ouch...sorry. I hate to hear that. I would love to have an angel in with my clams, but they can turn nipper for no reason just like you described. A fellow in my club had an angel in with clams for about 4 years and then, BAM, it turned into a nipper.
Your suspicions are correct, this nipping will most likely lead to the clams death if not taken care of. They stop opening all the way, and slowly move towards death.
Silly question: I was reading your description of your tank, and it sounds killer! But, you're running 400w radiums on a FOWLR tank? :) :)

nope...my main tank the 280 is a reef tank...I also have a FO tank that is run with actinics. I run a 20k readium my other tank for my ritteri anemone. He needs plenty of light.

Sad but true. Once they start to nip, they will continue. IME.

I hated to read that I have always wanted a big angel in a reef considered the emperior or the regal.....another problem is my wife loves xenia and zoanthids.......I like them some to, but i think the fish would be way cooler.......

Thats where I am at..but to my shagrin I put a trigger in that FOWLR tank and now I have sandstorm heaven...I have sand all over my LR and ALL over the tank...the trigger likes to look for food in it and spit it everywhere. I swear he does it to **** me off.
