So I'm walking past my reef today, and I look in and my serpent star is on the other side of the tank (very unusual for it), I start looking at it trying to figure out why it looked odd and then it hit me... it ate some of some size... I look to see if I could find what it ate, and it turns around, it had half a peppermint shrimp hanging out of it's mouth... by the time I ran for the digital camera it was swallowed whole...

No real point to the post, just wanted to share the experiance... Hope everyone is safe and dry...

Do you think the star actually killed the shrimp, or does it look like the shrimp expired on its own, and the star was just taking advantage of the available treat? Did he actually get the whole shrimp inside without blowing out his disk? That must have look creepy.

Do you target feed your stars at all?

Couldn't tell you if it was alive or dead before... all I saw was a tail poking out the starfish... it looked very odd to put it nicely.

and yes, I target feed the star (only one I have) about 2-3 times a week...

several days later it's still alive and kicking.... crazy things... lol

I have seen mine eat a gorilla crab and a red mithrax crab, the red mithrax was still kicking a bit...to no avail.
