I have a 125 gal in which I have been able to keep sps corals with success: good growth rates and okay colors. Up and running for 14 months. Filtering is via refugium( no skimmer), there is a Ca reactor and excellent coralline algae growth.
My question is, do you think I can keep clams under just vho's(5.1 watts /gal)?
The odds are not in your favor. If you put a Squamosa up on the rocks or possibly a Derasa on the sandbed.

I seem to be having sucess with mine. I have had it for about 8 months and my clam- sold as a maxima- has grown a small amount. I have about the same lighting you are proposing, about 5 watts per gallon of VHO. My clam has kept it's beasutiful blue color and like I said has grown maybe 15% or so. I keep it off the sand bed about 25% up from the bottom of the tank. Good Luck.
