tbs/hirock mix?

has anyone done a tbs and hirocks mix? I'm trying to cut down on cost, but I want an extremely high quality lr to mix with the hirocks stuff. I am planning on buying a small pkg from tbs. The one they recommend for my 55 gal is just a little too cost prohibitive. Yes, I know this is not a cheap hobby, but I can try can't I?:rolleyes:

might look kinda strange becuase some of the rock is "loaded" with color and life and some is just white.

I would agree, unless you are planning on completely burying the other stuff it will look odd. I have a couple pieces of rubble in my tank that are not TBS and they still look funky 9 months in.
