400 watt Double Ended lamp and pendant NOW is stock!
These are the first 400 watt DE lamps and pendants on the market. These lamps are extremely bright and are perfect for deeper tanks and high intensity demanding corals. These are a SPS hobbyists dream come true! Here is an example of a 400 double ended 20k lamp in the middle of the tank with standard single ended 20k lamps on either side.

The 400 DE Avalon lamps come in 20k, 14k, and 10k. I have completed a 60 day testing with the 20k and 10k lamps. From my personal experience the 20k is superb. This lamp is about 80% white and 20% blue. It is a nice crisp white with a blue highlight. There is no need to run those 10k lamps and supplement with actinic. This lamp is great for SPS and brings out the blues and purples in them. All lamps come with a 30 day replacement warrantee against defects. http://www.phishybusiness.com/bulbs.php

The Sun Replicator pendants allow you to adjust for 250 double ended lamps or 400 double ended lamps. If you are thinking that maybe down the road you may want to upgrade to a 400 DE, the Sun Replicator pendant is perfect for you. Now you will not have to spend more money to purchase another pendant! By just removing two screws you can adjust the contact points for the lamps and set it for either a 250DE or 400DE. http://www.phishybusiness.com/pendants.php

We are recommending running the 400DE on the PFO HQI ballast. We have tested these lamps on electronic ballasts and found the start up may take 1-3 cycles before firing the lamps up. The PFO HQI starts up immediately and runs the lamps at the optimal levels.

Hi there,
How long have you had the 20k 400 d/e hqi's running on your reef? I've been hearing that the bulb is very bright and it sounds great. There's only 1 thing bothering me, and that's the unproven nature of this bulb. Has this bulb been proven in Europe? I am really leaning toward ordering this over the 250 hqi, but feel a bit hesitant due to the "newness" factor of it. Do you forsee any type of premature bulb failure? Have you notice any differences in your acros since these have been on?

Maximus,
I have been running them for just over 60 days now. The lamp itself runs very well with instant start up and no flickering on the PFO hqi ballast. In the last 60 days I have been running them for 12 hours a day with not one problem.

Has this bulb been proven in Europe?
As far as I know, NO. This is a knewly designed lamp that has been in the works for over 1 year.

Do you forsee any type of premature bulb failure?
I do not; the lamp itself is designed very well. The lamps contact points are constructed well which makes it easily to slip into the pendant. I have not seen any flickering or delayed firing of the lamp.

Have you notice any differences in your acros since these have been on?
Yes, the 20ks and 10ks have made a big difference on the thicker branched bight blue and purple Acroporas I have had problems with in the past such as monticolusa and humilis. I had a number of brown outs that in 60 days are returning to there blues and purples. Also, my pink milleporas are turning RED under the 10ks. My guess is that the PAR is making all the difference. It will be very nice to read what Sanjay's tests come out with on these lamps in a few days.

I hope this helps!
