Hey:
It's day 10 of my package on my 55 Gallon and yesterday the ammonia is finally down to 0.5.
I did not do a water change the last 2 days and it looks like I'll be cycled soon.
Things are looking up. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy
I'll probably be ready for my 2nd half next week some time.

you shouldn't do water changes at all during an initial cycle; it only prolongs the process

you should only do a change when the nitrites are down to zero for about 2 days straight.

Rock -
Good times - 0.5-ish is when my cycle really took off. I bet your levels are at zero in 3-4 days max. I just ordered my second shipment today.
The brown algae started within the last 24 hours and I hear that that is normal but you probably won't see that for another week. Perhaps shorter if you have bright lights (I have 40watts - not much.) (40gal)

Thanks Cindy.... I am right on track now.
I am going to run my lights less so maybe the algea won't attack as much.
I have 324 watts on a 55 gallon.
I wanna see pics when you get the 2nd shipment.

First off, it was "Cincy" not Cindy! lol! That's ok, though.
Secondly, 324 watts? cripes. I need to seriously consider more wattage next pay period!

Sorry man about the Cindy thing.
Yeah, I bought my T5's from Ebay and they are BRIGHT.
With a 40 Gallon, you might be able to get some PC's at a good price, but I don't think 40 watts is gonna be enough light to keep everything alive.
Luck
