View Full Version : Donor Colonista Mini Turbo Snails

pwhitby

These guys are tiny snails, they are nocturnal and completely disappear during the day. At night they cover the rocks and eat algae. They have not damaged any of my corals, nor to my knowledge, any corals in anyone elses tanks.

Here is a link to a reefkeeping column by Ron Shimek detailing colonista.

http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rs/index.htm

I will package up groups of 5-10 snails.

Each group is free to a member of the club providing that.....

They provide the correct environ for it to grow. (in this case a tank with water in it is fine)

They are at the next meeting to receive a group

They describe how they grow for them under their conditions, and what those conditions are.

They promise that once they have sufficient to pass on, they will donate a group to the next donor.

If you wish to be a sponsor....reply to this list. First come first served. The next people on the list will receive frags from the sponsors when the colony has doubled.

They looked really interesting in Dougs tank. They must multiply like crazy if you have that many snails.

at last count, I had seven million four hundred thousand, one hundred and twenty three of these snails, but that was last week. Since then there may have been a few more hatch out.

They are somewhat trick to catch though, since you have to do it at night.

anyway...I am sure I have enough for everyone.

Paul.

Any chance you would be willing to ship a batch of these? Maybe in trade for frags or something? I am willing to abide by the rest (though would have to share them up here in Wisconsin....).

Cool idea anyway.

Hey I found a bunch in a LFS tank.....probably cheaper than shipping at .05 ea!!! Thanks for the idea though, if/when these guys breed up to decent numbers, I will share locally.

Cheers!

Meisen,

We trade frags like this for group members all the time. You may want to set up a group in your area and trade frags with the promise people will then trade them again. It is a great way to learn what conditions work and a great way to get your tanks filled.

I will be at the next meeting. Am just starting in all this - have a 29G tank with a 10G sump beneath it. Rock has cycled and I am starting to add some cleaner crew types, etc.

Please feel free to bring anything to the next meeting that you might like to donate to my cause. ;)

I have ended up with a bunch of these little snails all on my own. Actually I got a piece of rock from Lazyreefer and it had 3 or 4 of them that I could see. Now I have a dozen or so that I can see at night.

I gave some of these out at the last meeting at UCO. If you received some, please sign your name in the have list. The ONLY way we can keep the frag program is if people document receipt, and passing on of corals and other donor items.

Paul.

I have these guys in my tank. They actually out competed my other snails, so now these are my only algae eaters left...

I can probably get another set or two of 5-10.

If anyone wants to come by in the near future and get them, let me know,

I can bring more to the Feb meeting, or they can be collected from my house.

Russ...do you have any?
