Better setup for 75G BB SPS tank

Hi Roger,

I just wonder which is the better setup for 75G bare bottom SPS tank? Two Stream 6000 on a multi-controller, or a wavebox, or a wavebox and a Stream 6000 on single controller? What is the rate (gallon/hour) for a wavebox?

The wavebox flow rate is not easy to calculate, it is equal to the size of the wave for which you have to calculate the volume and multiply by the frequency. It is an enormous figure though, usually on the order of 50 or more times the tank volume. The ideal would be the wavebox and a single 6000 with the multicontroller. Even though the wavebox has a controller it can be corrdinated with your pumps via the multicontroller. The main question is do you want to lose that much space. The wavebox isn't small, it is 11" tall and about 5" square. If you can't live with that then the 2 6000's are your best option but one alone could do a decent job if you have a strong return.

I just measured my stream 6000. With its current orientation, it already takes 5"x5"x5" space, since a wave box only takes 6" more deep, I think it's OK.

I should put the stream in the back corner, right?

Yes, I would put it opposite the wavebox and alternate which one is running every 6 hours using the multicontroller.

Hi Roger,

In this case only one device (stream or wavebox) runs at one time, right? What's the benefit of this schedule? How about I just use the wavebox and run it 24h/day? Is there any light cell on wavebox's own controller to set the Day/night effect?

The wavebox comes with a photocell but the effect is muted when flow comes from the opposite side. This will create a nice tide effect where for 6 hours detritus is lifted into suspension and a rocking motion is created and then for 6 hrs a linear pulsing flow carries the suspended detritus.
