I have been thinking of getting this kind of fire fish. I just wanted to know if anyone has had one and if there is anything special I need to know. I have 2 purple and 3 regular fire fish and they are doing great. .

How big is the tank? Often if you have a group of firefish (more than one, if not a pair). They will eventually start whittling themselves down to one. A Helfrichi, as the new addition to the tank, will be the most likely to end up on the floor. It's a bad way to lose $200.

Mark, did you buy one? I bought one two weeks ago and he was doing fantastic, then he jumped 2 days ago. I found him on top of my glass cover. The only thing I can figure is he jumped while I was feeding them and I didn't notice. That one hurt!

They must keep in lower tempreture-at lease>28, and best keep in pair. I have 1 pair of fire-gobies, 1 pair of purple fire gobies and 1 pair of helfrich fire gobies live for 6 months together, they seems very friendly.
PS. must have a glass top, even you don't have agressvie fish to chase them. If the light suddently turns on, they might be frightented.

I may not be right but I remember someone telling me that they have a coating on their skin which makes them much less susceptible to ich. But this is just from memory so not 100% sure.
mine got beat up by one of my lineatus wrasse's and died in rehab
the next day.
