Does the Ice Cap 660 Thermal protection?
My Ice Cap 660 is about 2 weeks old and running 4 - 4' Actinic VHO bulbs. I was just sitting by my tank and the VHO's flickered once then went off. I felt the ballast and it wasn't very warm. I unplugged the wiring harness, wiggled all the wires in the end caps, checked the fuse, plugged it back in and it fired right up?
Anyone have any ideas why it would just shut off?

More than likely a loose connection somewhere. Possibly at one of the end caps, or a lamp not seated correctly in an end cap. Was there any power fluctuations that could have caused it to shut down. As for heat, the ballast never gets very warm. Since it is now working I have to assume the wiring is correct and the ballast is fine.
Check your lamp ends for blackening as an indication of a loose wire or corrosion associated with that end or endcap of the lamp. Loose wires or poorly connected endcaps (which should be mounted) can be a fire hazard.

The end caps are mounted and there was not power fluctuations. The set up is new so I don't think there will be any corrosion.
What do I look for in the end caps for a fire hazard?

Try http://www.icecapinc.com/pdf/endcap.pdf
This should tell all about the end caps and installation.
Is it still running fine?

Thanks for the link. It ran fine last night for an hour till the timer went off. I am at my office now and won't know if they turned on today till I home to night. I hope they are on?

OK, the VHO's came on fine today but at the same time tonight they went out. I have checked and can't find any lose wires? I just switched my timer off and back on, the VHO came back on.
I can see into the end of one of the Actinic bulbs. It is a lighter blue and I can see a round something when the bulb is light. The bulbs are only about 2 weeks old? Can a bad bulb cause all the lights to go off like this?
It is weird they went off at the same time two nights in a row (before the timer)?

If one lamp is bad it will cause the entire ballast to shut down. It could be a problem BUT at the exact same time at night?? Leads me to believe something is not set right in the timer or the timer is malfunctioning.
