doing some checking re XM double ended bulbs will
not work with IceCap electronic ballasts. Ok, fine,
won't buy the bulbs.

2nd choice, Hamilton 14k's. Now I see references
these also will not work on IC electronics.
Looking for a confirm or denial here. :)

Also wondering, when is the before/after for the
new-and-improved ballasts. How can you tell
which is which?

As for the Hamilton lamps, the end contacts have extremely thin metal. When inserting into the lamp holder it sometimes bends and does not make good electrical contact. This causes an intermittent start up problem. Sometimes it fires with no problem other times it does not. Some excellent lamps to try is the USHIO, Aqualine, and Geishman. There is also the new Icecap brand available.

The old style ballast has a 6 foot quick disconnect wiring harness and is different in size and shape. The new style ballasts have out for over 2 years now.been
