Just recently got a new deresa. He is quite large at least 6". Am I suppost to spot feed him DT's directly?? Or do I just add the Dt's to the tank & let him filter it??? He opens up real nice w/ extension of 3/4" to 1". Seams to be very happy. The shell is green from algae is this normal???

you can just drop it in the tank, a clam that size doesn not need much of the phyto as it will be fed by the zooanthalle with prpper lighting. He will keep growing for another 7 inches though, watch yoru calcium levels though.

Thanks Julio. Just glad to confirm I was doing it correct. His shell is really green w/ algae is this normal. It looks like its grown. I've noticed a white ring around the outside edge. You are right he sure does suck down the calc.

Hope you have him on the sand bed...This is Tridacna Derasa's favorite place....Bury a small piece of rock under the sand for him to attach to and also to protect his bysal opening

He's on the DSB w/ a small piece of rubble already under him. Do they filter cyclopseeze (sp.) also??

How big a piece of rubble should you put underneath them? My LFS has a huge Deresa (looks like a Deresa to me anyways, and that's what they said it was) at about 12" long. It sits right on the glass with just minor scattering of sand around it. (less than 1/4 to 1/2"
