Scott:

I have one of the old Deluxe 80 gpd units. The membrane is still ticking good.
I use the 0.5 micron sediment the 0.5 micron carbon block before the membrane and traditionally I have been using the following sequence for DI:

First a DISFCI- 10 cartridge and then the DI MB-10 cartridge with good results despite my tap water being treated with Chloramines.

I use the DISFCI Anion because the MB cartridge used to get exausted very quickly, I think due to high CO2 disolved in the water. Now, the MB seems to last forever and I have the monitor set at 8 (0.33 ppm)

I would like to try the use of the Ammonia removing cartridge DI AR CI but I am not sure of the sequence to use.

Which of the following combinations and sequences will give me the best results purity and cartridge life wise?

1. Continue with DISFCI then DIMB
2. Switch to DISFCI then DISB
3. Use the typical recomendation for chloramine: DISFCI then DIARCI for Ammonia
4. Use DIARCI then DIMB (Concern with DIARCI life due to CO2?)
5. Use DIARCI then DISB (Concern with DIARCI life due to CO2?)

or convert the DI to three stages like:
6. DISFCI then DIARCI then DISB

The reason for trying to end the final stage with either an MB or and SB cartridge in the above combinations is that I am not sure the DIARCI will do as good of a job as an end DI cartridge as either the MB or the SB.

Thanks in advance
Jose

Jose,

The easy answer is #3. The DI-SF-CI-10 followed by the DI-AR-CI-10 is the best combination we have found so far to deal with the ammonia from the chloramine as well as the phosphates, nitrates and silicates aquarists are concerned with.

Thanks Scott. I will try that one.
