Can anyone help identify this particular pulsing xenia? It's bluish white, lots of branches per stem, in fact, I don't even know it's maximum, it's sprouting more branches on the same stem everyday... could this be a rare giant pom pom with over 100 branches?

Could be a heteroxenia sp. Got a sideways shot.

Yes, I did my best with the sideshot, 45 angle on a glass aquarium is very difficult to focus, therefore, I had to resort to an awkward angle, hope this helps.

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=699 yeah looks exactly like that.
I've never noticed how similar those look to the polyps on a clavularia, here is one from my tank.

its fiji I believe. At least thats what I get when I order fiji xenia. It is hard to get. Red Sea is fluffier. I have both.

Yes, I think mine is Fiji, more rare cause I paid $150 for mine! Reason I want second opinion so I can comfort myself for spending that much.
Anyways, nan10, I'll keep you updated if you want a frag. Mine has split once now after only 2 weeks! I read www.garf.org propagation of xenia, I got some idea about propagating mine. It'll be fun.

well thats the problem with common names. I know the fiji xenia garf sells, I've had that as well. however I believe these are 2 different species. Both possibly from Fiji. The fluffier fiji is what garf sells, that type is sometimes called blue xenia b/c it can turn blueish purple under certain lighting.

Will Xenia die from lack of propagation and overcrowding?

no, ive got no idea why you paid 150 for it either, i wouldve have given you some for free.

These are both fiji, not very common, can retail for $150. As you see color is variable.

Here's a picture to show how the real giants dwarf out the Red Sea xenia.
