here is a further out shot, i fragged the colony in half and traded it to shawn at waves (e-corals), slow grower, puts out a new polyp about once a month.

i have been calling it anger, seemed a fitting name

funny you should mention molten lava, just got a new encrusting monti that i am calling the lava dome, wrong forum, but you might enjoy checking it out...

thanks for the compliments. it is amazing what wild zoos do in our tanks, about 90% of my colonies end up becoming trade fodder at my club meetings because they never turn into anything, but the anger and the galaxy (first pic) really turned out nice.

i don't know that the ones i posted have a name per-say. however the local club has named them 'GI Joe' zoanthids because they are kinda camoflauge, heh!

get them from other reefers and online vendors, and sometimes a lucky score at an lfs, i have 3 diff pink mixes because of a LFS score, just gotta look/ask around to buy some

Here is an older pick of them. I got them from a reefer who had them under 65k, I have 50/50's and the color change was awesome. You can't see the black skirt and green/yellow frills on them in this pic and they hadn't changed as much in this one either.

They are my favorite zoo's.

Crazy zoos! Those first ones are really unique (well, at least to me...). I've never seen any with clear skirts before. How did you get them? Is that coloration even natural?

but they have since gotten much brighter. But even back then I could tell they had the green slit mouth.
And the pictures are pretty accurate, as I finally spent enough time messing with the camera to get good shots with accurate color.

Here's a pic of my now deceased olive colony. It was the first colony I ever got, and I went away for a week and they were all closed up when I got back. thanks all. my zoos are the pride of my tank. ive got a long way to go to catch up to some of the people in this thread though.

gflat65 - i like those as well. i have another rock that has about 30 of those on it, but its further back in the tank and i can get a good macro. they grow like weeds though.

i have 2 - 250w XM20000k halides and 4 - 110w URI super actinics. :D the lights really make a huge difference on my zoas. they do make some of my SPS turn a little green though. green is my favorite color so i dont mind :cool:

That explains it. 20K's and VHO's. I haven't gone as far up the spectrum as 20K's yet, but definitely love more blue.

Are those in the first pic blue and green in the center, or is the camera playing tricks. If blue and green, they are pretty cool. I have some simialr, but they are justy green in the center. The others are pretty nice, too. I have a few of them:).

They are a more soild blue but the picture is only close to the real color. The center fades to a turquise-ish color.

i like the blue too. first i tried 10k XMs with 4 actinics, then went to 20ks with 2 actinics and 2 actinic white, then one actinic white then all four actinics. it got better and better (bluer and bluer) wiht each switch. i like having the 4 VHOs as opposed to the regular 2, because i could play more with the color. i guess i could go with just 2 since its all actinic any way. if i find some aquablues or something with a higher PAR but hold a good blue i may try out some different VHOs, just to add some intensity to the ends of my lighting schedule.

thanks guys! Dr Mac's they were either $59 or $69. they had a buy one get one 1/2 off sale last thursday and friday (i got more than one coral :p). they had some awesome reds and some turquisoe that were sold that morning before i called :rolleyes: at first i was a little worried about paying that much for zoas, but it was totally worth it!! the rock is about 5-6" long, 4-5" wide and 4" thick. its over half covered!

youve got some nice ones too. im sure when mine spread a bit we can work something out ;)

currently im running dual 250w 20000k XMs. i was running 4 URI actinic VHO supplements, but i recently switched one back to an actinic white. i took these pics the day i switched the bulb so im not sure which config they were under. i do have to say, 940w of perdominatly blue light really makes my zoas "pop".
