There has been some confusion about distinguishing Gonodactylaceus graphurus from Australia from G. glabrous from Indonesia. Both have similar telsons and orange meral spots. It took these drawings from Shane Ahyong's volume on Australian stomatopods.

G. glabrous. Note the lack of a median carinule on the sixth abdominal tergite (E) and the smooth abdominal segments (D).

G. graphurus has a median carniule on the 6th abdominal segment (F) and fine lines on the abdominal segments (G)

There are also differences in the rostral plate.
