Since the ReefKeeper controlls heating is there any problems with just buying heating tubes like from Finnex and plugging them in to the Reefkeeper?

I think it would be fine but just want to make sure. :)

It will work fine IMO, you just don't get any redundant safeties. My heaters for instance are set at 80-81 degrees (as accurate as the will go) and the RK turns them off at 79. If the RK were to fail for some reason (stuck on), the heaters would turn themselves off at 80-81, and not boil my tank. Using the RK and a heating tube would be basically the same as just using a normal heater, but it is always nice to have a redundant system in place just in case IMO.

well it depends who you trust more, the heater or the reefkeeper. i was actually thinking of doing mine the opposite. have the heaters set to say 78 and the reefkeeper at 80 to shut them off in case they get stuck on.

I trust the RK at least as much as my heaters. So far my RK has kept the temp exactly where I want it which is a lot more than I could say with my heaters before the RK.
