What would be the nitrogen and phosphate export method in the BB/no macroalgae version with a high fish load? Just skimming? You would then be relying on bacteria to convert the ammonia and phosphate that the fish produce into skimmable organics? Whether that can keep the nitrate and phosphate levels low enough will depend on many factors, such as size of the skimmer and your ability to keep bacterial action at appropriate (high enough) levels.
In the past, that has not always worked adequately, but perhaps with a big enough skimmer, or with bacterial action driven by adding organics such as vodka or vinegar, it will be more so. :)

My new large Emp is doing great in the tank! Eating and loves the flow in the tank. His grunts can be heard upstairs from the tank.
Here is a few pics of him.

Yep that is the one! Shipment from Indo. He was sold as soon as Jayson @ (Saltwater Connection) showed me the pic of him from his supplier. He has perfect straight lines and is fat!
I took some new full tank shots of the tank.

Was just curious why your running 3 halides, if you plan on just fish only. I see you have a couple coral. But just curious if your planning on going reef later. It's just adding alot of extra heat, and expense. Just wondering

I added the MH for the looks. I do plan to try and keep what corals I can.
The tank ha 5/8" sides and bottom. Front and back panes are Starphire 1/2" with bracing on top. You can click my homepage button above to see the construction of the tank and misc pics.

Your tank is looking awesome! I don't think it's overstocked, but it is nicely stocked.
People don't seem to say that a tank is overstocked when it's full right to the brim with SPS, however a few big fish and all h*ll breaks loose!
I hope they continue to get along fine... I sure wouldn't want the job of trying to remove any of them.

I added a large Anemone to the tank. I was hoping my clown would host in it......Well after 10mins from putting it in the tank my perc was in heaven. I added it to my tank about 2 weeks ago he is loving the flow in the tank! He has moved a bit around the rock but stays right at the top close to one of my MH lights and close to a output from my 4-way. I have feed him once with a silverslide soaked in Selcon and he digested it in a day or two. My perc does not let my larger maroon clown come even close to it chases him away. Very funny to watch. I have moved my 4 actinic VHO URI bulbs closer to the water surface for better light penetration. They are about 3-4" above the water surface they made a big difference in the color of the tank compared to when I had them mounted 15-17" above. My MH were washing them out. I'm hoping to start on the framing of the tank to build it into the wall next week.

Just read through all the pages! (apparently, some other posters on the last couple of pages haven't:rolleyes: )
You tank looks great!! I am really impressed. The clown trigger looks awesome! I have seen quite a few long term reef tanks with clown triggers in them. I have considered it myself, but my tank is too small. As you have proven, if you feed your fish correctly, they will be much less likely to cause problems. Thanks for the great thread!
It is very uncool of you to have success with this dangerous combination of fish and corals. I don't know how you live with yourself by being a bad example and having success in this hobby. To quote another: "http://reefcentral.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif "
I am going to give you some researched information. Once your fish turn exactly 3.5 years old, they will turn on you and decide to destroy your aquarium. First, they will eat the shrimp and corals then turn on eachother and eat eachother. The fish that can eat the fastest will be the ones to survive. They will form a fish gang known to police and marine biologists as Hell's Angels...And Trigger (HA...AT). HA...AT will immediately go to work devouring the epoxy and chewing their way through the glass. I would go on with what they do next to the cat and the dog, but it is just to much for me to bear. Just remember, HA...AT is considered finned and dangerous.:worried2: :worried2: :worried2:

Actually it's not going to be wood. I'm framing it in then going to drywall the stand and the sides paint to match the walls. I hope to do the doors on top so it looks like there are none . Yep that is a nice t.v. I bought mine 4 years ago before the big hd market explosion. Sony Grand Wega XBR Sony's flagship T.V. It ran me $10,000 in 2001-02. Yes I have WMC on my computer.

HD,
Great tank! I look forward to following your thread and seeing how your unusual mix of fish and corals do longer term.
A question: did you use anything to support your LR, or to attach the rocks to each other? Are they just balanced on each other? I like the height, and all the caves and overhangs.

You can not beat the clarity of Starphire glass. My next new tank will be the same no going back to float glass.
CW from the OC: No the rocks are just stacked on the Starboard bottom. This rock was very easy to work with. Took me maybe 10-15min to setup the rocks.

I had some time to do some work on the framing and drywall on the tank. On a sad note my majestic angel passed away. No cause not sure why just stopped eating one day. He was very large full adult size. Maybe old age? He will be sadly missed
All other fish and corals are doing great! I had a chance to get a very nice 6" Gold flake Angel. I have wanted one for a long time. They are hard to get and come with a premium price tag. He has settled into the tank very nice with no aggression from any of the other Angels. Here are a few shots of the tank.

What a wonderful tank and I'm really glad everything is working out. I like to see people willing to do what they think is right and "push" the limits like other say. But I don't think there truly are limits. Just different attitudes! Amazing...look forward to every update in the future! ~Matt
Beautiful fish! That's quite an investment in fish alone, but a cool combination. What did you do for quarentine on all those large fish, weren't you concerned about disease and its introduction, etc.

Thanks, No I have a great LFS that has great suppliers! He treats all incoming fish and runs a massive ozone generator for all tanks. With my tank with the high turnover rate and running BB parasites and diseases don't stand a chance. Large skimmer large UV and a Ozone gen all help in disease control and prevention.

Well i broke down and re aquascaped my tank. I have many big fish in the tank.I found that the way I had my rock stacked in the center of the tank was taking up to much room. Have lots of swimming room now! Very pleased with the outcome. I added 3 new fish to the tank. A unicorn tang, M Angel, and another perc. I was very lucky in adding the other perc to the tank. He took to the other right away. Both are happy in the Anemone.

I had to replace my MH bulbs. I replaced them with new 12K CoralVue Reef Flux bulbs very happy with the color of these bulbs. They are much brighter then the reg CoralVue 14k's that they replace. Added some more corals to the tank. Torch coral and a few more moon corals.

First I would like to say no Clown Trigger was hurt in this demonstration!
Many of us have to remove a fish from time to time in our tanks. Sometimes chasing a fish with a net just is not possible. Here in this video I show you how you can remove any large fish with this simple procedure. 30sec or less.
Here is the link to the video.

After waiting over a year for this fish the time has come! Last year I was contacted if I was interested in taking a rather large Sohal Tang off the hands of a fellow hobbyist. I went over to his house I was shocked to see the size of this monster 15+" colors vivid and he was housed in a 90g. The guy wanted him out of the tank cause he was busting bulbs on his setup and had outgrowing his tank. To make a long story short we had no luck in getting him with 2 nets to much rock and corals in his tank. We gave up on the catch. Last night I got a call from a friend asking if I still wanted him I said sure! He transported him last night to my house and I landed him into the tank. He is by far the largest fish in the tank now! My French is a close second but still not the size of this monster! No aggression issues with him. Updated pics and videos of my tank with sand and the new fish to come.

Only thing I need to do is put a wye on one of the pump intakes and hook my ozone up to that. When the air pump in the ozone generator is off the pump the ozone generator is hooked up to doesn't get much air.
It's been skimming not too bad so far. It skims that much better without the ozone hooked up.
