It looks fake to me, cause this thing literal completely disappears. First time I watched it I thought to myself "No freak'n way". What do all you experts think?

I say fake.
I watched it over and over and though I believe Octopi have remarkable cammouflage skills I don't know of any that can transport to an area they were not previously occupying.

I stand corrected about the tape's validity.
I must add that since this is real...WAY COOL!

thats REAL! i have seen this one before along with others. octo's rely on camoflage for hunting and surving. and plus why would someone take the time to make a fake 48 second video of an octo?

absolutly incredible.....How the heck did the camera man know it was there in the first place?

He watched it settle and assume the protective coloration, then slowly approached to flush it.

Definitely real. Cuttlefish definitely can change color that fast. Better yet, a peacock flounder can change a variety of colors. Even close to a checker board pattern. And the mimic octopus is a sight to see as well.

Here is an octo I saw while snorkling in the St.Johns

It went from this color
http://www.stereovisions.com/images/images/octo1.jpg

to this color in an instant and swam under the rock when I got to close
http://www.stereovisions.com/images/images/octo2.jpg

I swam away a bit and it wondered back out and turned back to this color

This is definitely real! I worked for Roger Hanlon this summer, and that indeed is actual footage of an octpus' amazing camo capabilities!
