12gallon Nanocube Orginial with Upgrades...

I'm Doing an upgrade mod on my 12gallon Nanocube Original tank with a Hydro Rotatating Water Deflector on the output of the water from the pump and upgrade my pump to an MaxiJet 1200 power head PUMP.

I will post the picture ASAP when I upload it.

This tank is upgraded with Maxi-Jet Powerhead pump, the pump is converted to fit the tank by cutting the tube from the stock pump.

As you can see below that the pump is making a really strong current for the tank. See it current on the top?

I'm waiting for my LFS to carry the Hydro Water Deflector so I can installed it. I can't wait to get my tank to flow evenly...

I just bought a 2.24 Lighting from Nanocustom and it looks great. I can not wait to install it when I have time. I'm also having a hard time with crimpling the wires together because it is really hard to squeeze.

The 2.24 Series comes with:
Crimper connectors,
A/C adaptor 12V 500mA
2x24watts heatshields
Fulham PONY 226 Remote Ballast
Cooling fans 60x15mm
Bulb clips from BJB
A/C power cord
GX11 lampholder prewired to remote ballast from BJB

Easy simple DIY egg crate. I took a clean water bottle and cut in to a piece of square that can fit the top of the second chamber. After that, I cut some small holes only for the water to flow through, but not the algaes. That way the pump would not get mest up.

Hi there, I finally have time to place my new Nanocustom lighting in. I also install a DIY eggcrate, which I made. This will hold my Chaetomorpha and Feather Caluapra in sump 2.

Here check it out guys, give me some opinon about the retrofit. I keep wondering why people are ignoring this thread... Is is weak? I want to know......

I could not figure what light bulb I should put it, I' am still debating. Hmmm... I wonder if I should place 1000k? or 50/50... any other kinds of lights you guys prefered?

I reverse the right fan to bring in cool air to the tank, that way it has better circulation. What goes up, must come down... HAHAH

I cut out a O.J. cartton drill some hold throw for water to pass throw, aslo on the side acts like a surface skimmer in the sump.

I'm just wondering how that maxi-jet 1200 is working out. I thought it was too much flow in my 20g when I had one. I've heard of others using a mini-jet 606 as the return pump for the 12g nanocube. BTW, how did the DIY lighting go? I've never modded anything before but I'd like to add that same kit to my nanocube.

I still debating on what kind bulb I should get, there are so many different kind of bulbs that I can not pick out yet. There are a lot of options on bulbs, from 65k to 10k and more...

I do not owned my eclipse anymore, I gaved it away to my Brother in Law for freshwater dip; that he used it on his Marine fish.

The max-jet does pump out fast, but the water flows to a L shape tube so it slows down the flow.

The 2.24 mod is for 12gallon Nanocube OG, which pretty simple. I have some confusion about the wiring, really! I was on the right track all along. Chris at nanocustom explain to me a few times so I can understand. In the end, it was really easy and simple jobb. What kind of nanocube do you have?

I upgraded my pump to the MJ 1200 as well. W/ the hydro Flow it works great. Lots of flow but from many directions. Everyone seems happy.

I put a 20 watt halogen under cabinet light, < $10, from Home Depot, in a wood frame and use it as a refugium light. Just cut off some of the vinyl cover from the back of the tank. The wood frame keeps the light an inch or so from the tank so heat is not a problem. I have to throw away a handful of Cheato every couple of weeks. If you want some, I live and work in the Bay Area as well.

Yes, the light itself is round, the frame is 4" w x 12" h and sits behind the tank.

I' am planning to place a heater in that I have in my storage room. I forgot what is the brand, but it is a very powerful heater. I might have to set on low.

I wonder how a 65ks looks like under a blue/1000k 50/50s. Dawn lighting is 65k right?

I added the same kit to my 12 OG/DF - it was an excellent upgrade. Chris at nanocustoms is a pleasure to deal with.

One thing you all should consider is increased evaporation in your cubes. Before I installed the upgrade kit, evaporation in our cube was around a pint per day. After the upgrade, the evaporation increased to about 3/4 gallon per day! Needless to say, this is significant when dealing with such a small tank. I am planning an ATO, but in the meantime, I have the fans plugged in to a timer...

oh, wow, that much evaporation? Which ATO are you getting and how do you set up one?

I just installed my Azoo light and it is a very bright light. I light up the whole back of my sump.

I recommend that you remove your macro and add new..this time just add the chaetomorpha.If that caulerpa goes sexual...you will not want to see the results.It will probably be too difficult to insure that all the caulerpa is gone...so it would be best to just get a new clean batch of chaeto only.Another possibility is small bits of the caulerpa could make it to your tank and get a foothold.Chaeto would be much easier to remove in this case.

Why should I remove my Chaetomorpha? What is wrong with it?

As you can see, I have Nanocustom Surface skimmers and a Hydor water deflector.The surface skimmer is the best to keep the surface clean. Before I have the skimmer, It was so filmy on top. The hydor water deflector helps me out a lot. Because the Maxi jet pumps 295gph, after going to tubings, it will be about at least 240gh.

After I place the deflector the water pumps down to about 190 at least. It takes up to 18second per rotating, which mean 1 takes 18sec/round.

I have the original Nano Cube 12 as well and was wanting to do this lighting upgrade. Did everything fit in the original clear splach shield or did you need to buy more? It looks like you got two fans and the heat shield add-on. Any other add-ons? What was your upgrade cost?
