This can be true, but PBT's are very aggresive as well. I added the Sohal before the angels and after the PBT. It is probably last in line due to the size of the Angels, but it can hold it's own.

06/25/2005, 10:11 AM
Here's another shot. Not the best. I forgot to write that there is a lunarre wrasse, raccoon b/f and a pakistani b/f in the tank also. We have another green moray in our 1500 gal. Both green morays are big babies. They are great eels if you have a tank that is big enogh. This one will be moved to the 3500 gallon when he gets larger. He is very lazy though as most eels are, so him in the 450 is no problem. This pic is from about a year ago. I need to take some new pics so you can see how everyone has grown. We also have a 5 foot spotted moray in another 450 gallon who is absolutely beautiful. I need to get some photos of him too for you guys. He is housed with 5 male brevosteris, naso, yellow, emperor angel, pair of scribble angels, klunzinger wrasse, jansens wrasse, broomtail wrasse, Aust. harlequin tusk, fire clown and a few other I can't think of at the moment. Here's a pic of me in the 3500 gal. feeding nori after cleaning. Very blurry pic. My camera wasn't sure what to focus on but I think you can make out the extrmely large mated pair of french angels, the clown trigger and a whole lot of tangs. I'll try and get some new good shots this week. We just got a new camera.:D

It's a pretty sweet set-up. I took over about 5 yrs ago when the curator at the time transfered out of state. We have many fish that are 10+ yrs old. Our biggest fish is a 17 pound stars and stripes puffer. We have about 8000 gallons total exhibit volume and about 1000 gallons of quarantine. Everything is run on high pressure sand filters, extra large skimmers and ozone. All fish are quarantined for at least 30 days and some longer depending on wht kind of fish they are and what exhibit they will be going into. all fish get started in the 450's and moved to the larger exhibits as they grow older and larger and can hang with the big boys. Our 1500 gal. is our most aggressive, consisting of 10 large spadefish, 15 lookdowns, groupers, triggers, unicorn tangs, numerous heniochis b/f's, etc. etc. The 3500 gal. is more peaceful but still aggressive. Lots of large angels, 5 vlamingi tangs , 6 unicorn tangs, 20 yellows, 10 blue tangs, lots of b/f's, puffers, smaller groupers, lots of mated pairs, bluethroats, crosshatch, french's, maculosis, etc. etc. I'll get some new photos this week and post them.

B.Pierce: Here, in Chicago, they run $1500 - $5000.

Big...lol
I'm upgrading to a 360gal, from my 200. When I do, my fish will be moved into the 360gal. and the 2 morays will be left in the 200.
I still dont think a 200gal. is going to be big enough to house the Whitemouth and Dragon for life though. I may get rid of the 200 and upgrade the eel tank to a 240gal. (8' x 24" x 26"). My 200gal. tank was a custom that I got cheap...it's 60" x 24" x 31".

Always a treat to see your Bumblebee, jwm2k3. Those are my favorite groupers and the only reason that I'm hesitant about getting one is because they get so big.

Nice collection of preds Carson! But fyi, that is not a stonefish. It is a scorpionfish... scorpaenopsis diabolus most likely though there are two or three closely related, none of which are true stonefish.
I suspect it has bright coloration under it's pec fins, is that right? (red, yellow, orange)

It was in a 75 gallon maintenace tank for three years. The lfs talked the owners into trading it out for some smaller fish.

It is a princess parrotfish. They don't get as big as the others.
So far it has not bothered any of my corals however I keep mostly soft corals.
It can be a challege because I have to feed it several times throughout the day to keep it fat.
It would probably do fine in your 125 if you keep it well fed and don't put it with fish that are too aggressive.

I think that scorp Carson will only get to be a few inches in length. Check fish base for S. diabolus, or look it u in Reef Fishes Vol. 1, there is a good write up on it (and the similar scorps) in there. Or just do a web search on 'false stonefish', I'm sure you'll get a bunch of hits and pics.

not a bad idea but the spotted moray is still staying in the tank im afraid of the horror stories i hear to often

I don't think that the moray would harm the lionfish if they were big enough. The spotted isn't a very aggressive species. But morays like the green and tessleta communly eat poionus fish.

carson there are three very similar scorps that could match yours, you'll have to compare them in the Reef Fishes Vol. 1 book... any decent fish store (or fishkeeper) should have a copy you can look in. All three grow to different sizes.
And fwiw, my spotted moray ate two appox. 6" volitans just two days apart. tricky to find compatible mates for it.

Bill
My walking batfish has a great personality and comes to the front of the tank when I walk by but from what I've herd they do not take to frozen food at all but mine is eating frozen my theory on this if he see's other fish feeding off the tongs then he will notice that that's a good deal and not have to move and get food brought to me. Also he is difficult to feed because his mouth is way under his head so it takes some practice with the tongs to give him food. They are a very cool fish they even have a lure on that little horn that looks like a nose and their gills are in their armpits. They also like space to scoot/walk around the tank.
-Drawback-
they ship very poorly I think because like the native people from where they are from accidently catch them in a shrimp or crab cage or something then sell them to a wholesale down that way. Being caught in a shrimp cage usually bangs up the fish pretty bad so they arrive in very poor poor condition.
Cuttlefish is still doing great and my octopus comes in very soon!

Carson: My friend just bought a little baby "Pineapple" Trigger, it is about an inch long (maybe less) But is already showing is natural trigger aggresiveness by chasing off an established blue fiji damsel within five minutes of being in his tank. Also was chasing ghost shrimp and eating both krill and mysis instantly. I will get a pic soon. I believe it is either a starry or yellow-margin, but it still doesnt look Exactly like any of the pics i've seen, maybe with age it will normalize...

pierce told me they get quite aggressive just behind the big boys and in front of the picasso. Could I mix him with the coris wrasse and be fine ?
B Pierce
06/27/2005, 10:57 PM
IMO they are in the picasso catagory. But nothing like queens, titans, and blue lines. But way more aggressive then the crosshatches, nigers, and pinktails.
I have also heard that they get more aggressive with age.

Specialk: I am still unsuccesful at getting the antennata to eat frozen. I have had the Fuzzy and Antennata for about 2-3 months now. I purchased them online, So I imagine they were obviously wild caught, and probably never introduced to live food in captivity. Both are scared of any frozen food I have offered (krill, shrimp, silversides), I have yet to try the fishing string idea, but the semi-transparent feeding stick did NOT fool anyone... I have been feeding them a lot of ghost shrimp every several days gutpacked with cyclopeeze and spectrum, and OCCASIONALLY feeding some gut packed fw feeders with spectrum. I try to stay away from any FW food, but I figure its better for them than starving.... I hope to get them converted over soon though, the fish stores are all across town...
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, my other most formidable predator, Boris The Crayfish Slayer:

I am not a Boris fan..... BUT Thats a Great Pic!
Thanks for the info, I had a Fuzzy that was hard to get on frozen so I started putting a silverside on a Nori clip. I would place just the tip of the tail in the clip in the flow as soon as the lights went out and it would just stare at it but it would eventually eat it.
One day I tried one on a stick and it took it right away, so I may have to resort back to the nori clip....lol

Without going back and answering your questions individually...
My Queen Trigger is only 4" - 5" long and bascially still my Red Coris Wrasse's biatch, since he's 8" - 10". lol He beats her around and has complete domination over her. I know that'll DEFINATELY change once she's puts on some weight and length. She's a mean little bugger though and I have the bite scars to prove it. lol
Also, bassman57...I'm a mod, at Grimreefers. Mods arent allowed to enter the contests.
But, back to the Lion. Here are a few pictures in all of his 12" - 14" glory. lol He's a beast and one of the most graceful, beautiful (yet mean) fish I've ever seen. I've never seen one this big and thick outside of a public aquarium...

First off nice Rectangle trigger, don't see to many people with them but one of my favorite fish. Mine is the most shy and relaxed trigger I ever had. Used to hide a lot (when I had my blue line in the tank) but once I got rid of the BL he stays out almost all the time. I have not experienced any aggression with him but I really think that was because the BL put him in his place. I have had him over a year and I still love watching him dart around my 135 and spit sand everywhere.
I am also thinking of getting a wrasse, not sure what kind but I was leaning toward one of the banana wrasses (not sure which one)
