View Full Version : RK resets itself
It resets during while turning on the 250w MH (looses power for a second). The MH come on 15 minutes apart and it happens when the second one fires. I have seen it happen two times (in 2 months) but I'm not a home most days when the lights come on.
1: 250w MH
2: 250w MH
3: 200w Heater
4: 4" fan (programmed as light)
5: empty
6: Actinics
7: empty
8: sump pump
Scared the crap out of me last time because the siphon break on my return line makes a God awful sucking sound when the pump is turned off.

See some other threads in this forum about ballast compatibility. What type ballasts do you have? I run IceCaps on 2 250w and have had no problems.
I'm running Icecaps also.

Ah, I`ve got the same thing! See my "Strange problem" thread. I think the darn things are defective.

they definitely have some weird interference issues.....they also cause interference sometimes.
i think i'm going to have to look into the aquacontroller jr. to see if it solves some of my issues.

I'm curious why you don't have the fans on the temp controller. You may be surprised on often ( especially in wintertime ) the fans aren't really needed to be on the whole time.
I personally, just leave the lights off the controller becuase they are larger power consumers anyways and usually like to have them on different circuit so like you say if were to trip a circuit for some reason it won't stop the return pump.

I do the exact opposite David. I have my pumps on a dedicated circuit (since I never turn them off), and the lights, fan, heaters all plugged into the RK. Having the fan(s) on the RK is definately a big advantage. Otherwise you might find the heaters on, while your fans are running.

Just got my reefkeeper today and have the same problem. My ballasts are magnetic. It surprises me. I unplugged the halides and have it running without them. It has not reset itself since.

what kind/brand of ballasts? I have PFO 175w magnetics and no problems since I grounded my WH7 VHO ballast.

I take that back. It started to do it overnight when my refugium light kicked on. IT seems to only do it when my lights are on. I am running hamilton tech magnetic ballasts

Today I`ve gotten a replacement RK from DA. Everything seems fine, no more resetting when my third MH comes on.
