View Full Version : Mantis Wisconsin or Chicago
I am looking for a Mantis for sale, giving away, or trade. I am willing to drive to most of the counties in Chicago so if you have a mantis you want to get rid feel free to post up.

If I ever catch mine, then I will post it. I have been looking to get him for a while. Elusive little bastard.
I was going to keep him in a nano tank when I caught him, but I already put other stuff in that nano. So no space for the mantis when I catch him.
Tony
Is there anyone that already has caught theres that is looking to get rid of it or sell it?

Be patient. Your best bet is to swallow the shipping and simply order one from flying fish or some other online vendor.
My experiences with most places have been good, and you can usually find good pricing and high quality specimens.
I looked into ffexpress, they charge me $27 just for shipping a mantis shrimp. $46 for the shrimp after shipping seems a little high.

i kept asking my lfs and i now have a buddy their who does all the liverock ordering who checks every rock that comes in and i get them for nothing. at least one every month or two
I have found a guy that is willing to ship it to WI., I also tried and asked my lfs for a mantis and they just laughed at me.

Like it says patience is your key here. I have been and will be out of the country for a while, so when I get back, and if I catch the one in my tank, you can have him.
Calling home he still seems like he is active in my tank, killed my $70 Purple Tang. So I will need my full restraint when I catch him to keep me from just taking the hammer out and beating him to a pulp when I catch him.
Tony
Tony also if you want to replace you purple tang there is a store in WI. that sells them for $50 or under depending on size.

Shia,
Looks like you are not going to get a mantis out of me. Turns out I have a hairy hitchhiker crab, and not a mantis to attribute all the trouble in my tank to.
Tony
Thanks anyway Tony, atleast you tried
Wondering if anyone else in the Chicago WI. area wants to get rid of, sell, or trade a mantis. If so feel free to post up or email

Hello Shia,
Looks like you have been looking for a while. Well I have been trying for a very very very long time to catch the one in my 120AGA. Well when I got home today there it was in the trap. I couldn't believe my eyes. I have a modest digital camera so here is the best I can do for pics. Its pinkish brown with blue green appendages. I'm in Minnesota and I see you where just here last week end doesn't it figure. Anyhow if you want I'll ship I've heard that a thermos can be quite good in shipping small items like this. Let me know. Sorry to babble on I'm pumped I finally caught this mantis.

Thanks, it looks great. Minnesota is not really far from here so ground shipping should have it here next day. Thank you very much.
On a side note, I love this board. There are so many people willing to help out.
