Hi guys, putting a small nano tank together, just wondering, what clams would be the best for a 2 18 Watt tank that is 2.5 gallons. Thanks

I'm afraid no clams is the best answer. The smaller clame (which would still get WAY too big for a 2.5 gallon require much more intense light than that. THe lower light clams are too big.

Even if you got a small clam that would be fine with the lights, they place such extreme chemical demands on such a small system and also demand a stability of tank that's extremely hard to keep.

If you are deadset on a clam, consider at least 10g+ with MH for a small maxima or crocea clam. A larger tank with lesser lights would work for a squamosa or derasa.

this would be temporary,i am going to set up a 55 with 250 mh lighting. Still not a good idea?

I understand your point Peabody, thank you i didn't mean to insult you, just saying that if the clam got bigger it has a place to go. :)

I agree with peabody, keeping clams are relatively easy with STABLE conditions and higher lighting. I believe that stability is even more important then the lighting, but 36w PC lighting would be pushing it. It’s just too hard to keep the flat line conditions that you need to keep these inverts. Just my .02.

If you're goign to set up a larger tank with MH lighting, I reccomend being patient and getting one then :)

hippopus work well with pc, but under MH they seem to gape quite a bit(they adapt to the high lighting but it takes some time)
