Well, the tank for my soon to be acquired mantis is now set up and running.

He will be in the display area on the right hand side of the tank.

I started a thread for the tank and its development here:

You may want to darken the right side for your mantis. When my smithii was in my 40 with t-5's he never came out, now that he is in the 12 with 2 18w PC's he's everywhere. Mantis usually have better colors with darker environments

I am hoping to have enough macro floating on top to give a lot of shadow.

If it is still too bright I might put some egg crate 3/4 of the way up to provide shade and support macro up higher....

If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer.

one thing I've found it that I think I need more circulation in the mantis area, but we'll see.

Dont put too much flow in there, mantis arent the greatest swimmers. The mainly like to meander around the tank, and if you have to much flow, they might start to blow around. My little 12g Uniquarium only has a RIO 400 for flow.

good to know. I just don't want totally dead spots either. I'd like 'pods etc. to thrive as well.

My little tank is teeming with them, you can come over and check it out if you want, it actually turned out quite nice.

hmmmm... I may have to. I just had a terrible diatom break out. Using NSW and all was well for a couple days.

I just added some sand and LR from my established 72 and WHAMMO.... diatoms everywhere.

Not sure what to do. I may have to siphon them off everyday!

I did toss some macro in from my other tank to hopefully compete for some of whatever is feeding the diatoms.
