Hey every one.
I got my mantis today from FF express. It's a female peacock. Nice animal about 5" Seems very friendly compaired to my G.chiragra. FFexpress did a nice packing job. Fed x was a pain with them saying I wasn't home the first attempt at delivery. Good thing I followed the tracking on line. After a few calls, a drive to the fed x office and a second delivery attempt I got the bug. Turns out they went to the wrong adress the first time. Idiots!

The largest Odontodactylus scyllarus (peacock) I have ever seen was just over 20 cm (you can do the math). It was an O.s. at about 18cm that caused the finger of a diver to be amputated.

Here is a pic of the new O.scyllarus I got. She seems to be a very peaseful and friendly mantis. She is out all the time and seems much braver than my G.chiragra. The nice thing is you get to see her all the time. She is bigger too.

Dr. Caldwell, what is the length and age of the O. scyllarus in your lab that nailed you a few months ago? If I remember correctly, it had to have been 17 or 18 cm.

Fortunately, it was only about 14 cm.

It is rare to find an O.s larger than about 17 cm.

I am about to purchase a mantis shrimp, and found this board.
And to my suprise I noticed you on here! Anyway, did you see my thread on pred. board about the show on discovery channel last night? They talked about mantis's a little. Talk to you later.

After looking at her for a week, I have to say she may be close to 5.5" to 6" She is large and if I can, I will stick a plastic ruler in the tank and try and get a pic of her checking it out.
The home she built out of rubble and shells is very impressive.
