Nice pink florida ric! Haven't seen a solid pink fl. that nice in awhile! Did you get the ric online or LFS or someplace else? Rics are addicting, once you get a few, you just have to get every color of the rainbow!

Thanks! I got it from a local reefer. So far I've got pink, blue and green. Hopefully I'll get a few more colors soon, probably after the holidays. They really are addictive.
Nice tank! I used to have a 10 gallon dorm room reef, but it never looked that nice. By the way, is that a green toadstool? Those are so cool too.

BradleyJ - Beautiful rics and zoos. Can I ask you a question? I have a very large ( 4" across ricordia ) next to a large pink paly colony( 8 polyps 2 - 3" tall ). 2 Days in a row I've come in to find 1 paly head closed up with one ricordia tenticle in its mouth. Does not seem to irritate the ricordia, but it usually takes a while for the paly to reopen after I seperate them. Should I move them? You have yours so close and I like that look! Who's stinging/eating who? What do you think?
greenmandk
bradleyj
01/01/2006, 07:52 PM
The ricordia is stinging the paly, keep a close watch over them and if keeps irratating the pally's I would suggest moving them. I had to move my sun polyps away because the mushrooms were killing them slowly. I guess I just lucked out with the others, they dont seem to bother each other.

I have no idea what each of these cost. My wife picked them up from the lfs that she works at.
What Online sellers have good prices on their Ricordias?
mfinn
02/16/2006, 03:20 PM
reeftopia had a really good price. 6 ricordea for $42. But out of the 6 only 2 were worth saving, colorwise.
liveaquatia had a special going also, so I bought some off the wysiwyg page and one of the specials and neither one was worth it.
So, if you want really sharp colors, you will have to pay $$$$.

Okay I got a question that I need answered. Does anyone know of any creature that eats healthy ricordia?
I got up this morning and there are no signs of my rics at all in my tank. The rocks that they were mounted to are the only thing left.
BTW Below H2O nice Place and Rics.
Have not seen anything that will eat rics.
Chances are they dismount from the rock and disappear into the rockworks. Normally its only yumas that will fall from the rocks.
Try looking for it.
Hope it helps.

02/20/2006, 07:56 AM
I did read recently that there is a worm that DOES eat them. Someone else's kept disappearing, and, they found the culprit. Not a bristleworm, be something similar that is bad news.
I agree though with YZF, mine do detach and get blown around, but several at a time might be doubtful.

That is the most horrific looking worm. Well due to the disappearance of my rics I have been thinking about turning the tank into a BB. That would give me a chance to inspect the rock work or at least do a Fresh Water Dip. I have just never seen such a thing as Corals today gone by Morning.

I just lost a completely healthy superman rhodactis. Thursday it was there, full and open and Friday morning it was gone. Only the rock it was attached to was left. The only thing in the the tank is a lawnmower blennie and a couple of pepermint shrimps.
I've heard the shrimps will eat zoanthids, maybe???
Got any shrimp in the tank?
rbrice020378
02/21/2006, 09:27 AM
I have one Cleaner and he has been very active in the tank. I didn't think that a shrimp would eat my rics. He has been fighting with the clowns. He will get to close and they will nip at him to go away. My wife thinks the shrimp is OCD. Things have been moving around on the substrate in the front of the tank. And there isn't enough flow to do the moving. I'm at a loss can't figure this one out.

So what are some of the key points to keeping Florida rics happy? I have an 18†deep tank with VHO lighting (2 act / 2 50/50). I have a fine sand substrate bottom with plenty of open rock work to place them anywhere in the tank for different lighting and flow needs.

I disagree. In my experience my ricordia florida look much much better under metal halide then they ever did under PC. They will live and grow under PC but won't look nearly as good IMO.
Yuma like low light though.

I've seen bleached ricordeas and that does not look bleached. If anything it looks like nice healthy ricordias of a florescent variety. Bleached one would have some solid colors still on the undersides that are shaded, but this one is colored evenly through out.

Ok then in that case I have the EXACT SAME ricordea!!!
What are the chances?
Except, mine used to be a tri-color.
I'm not saying it to put anyone down, but newbies shouldn't be looking at these ricordeas thinking that they're rare and going out and paying 'rare' prices for them. It's ridiculous but it happens.

my yumas seem to like to be on the bottom under a little shade.i have a few other yumas that came to me somewhat bleached and they are doing alot better in shade and coloring up.i dont spot feed any of my rics .i do use 4ml of phyto feast everyday to feed my clam,i assume they will eat the phyto as well.my pic was taken under 10k 150 halide/130 pc actinic 460nm/420nm.i would move it back down to the bottom, try to find an area that has some shade and put it there.you can melt it if you get it too close to light(trust me i found out the hard way).

Also cheers to everyone's obsessive commitment to tank health and water quality. Those look like some happy, happy Rics.

Since this is a thread completly dedicated to the wonderfull ricordia. I thought id post my problem. I have different heads of rics. When i got them they were all perfect and fow a couple weeks really doing great. 2 weeks ago now after one my water changes, As well as removing my rock to scrub off evil hair algae i noticed that 3 of the heads havent opened up fully, The way they should be at least. I dont have a camera right now to take pictures but maybe i can draw a mental picture. 3 rics at which were jsut a tad smaller them a palm when full opened (2" - 2.5") now shunk to the size of a a loonie or larger coin (1" - 1 1/4") They take food if fed but are still the same size and colour. I dont know what to do.

You could have them sent to your work. And then spend all day wanting to go home and get them in your tank. I have heard that it is cheaper to ship to a business as well.

Presto I got those from a store that had MH lighting over the display tank and they were kind of shoved into a corner so they wouldn't get too much light.
I now have them in my tank at the bottom under 4x54W of T5HO bulbs.. i think 2 03's, a 460nm and then that super actinic thats actually a white-bluish mix. Hope that helps!

This one is under 2 250 watt 14,0000k MH and 2 400watt MH all on Reeflux 14,000K (May be 12,000K cannot remember right now).
I moved my rics over into my small top down tank, I like them much better this way!

smp,
I do like the green/beige colony the best too. Gotta love those cuban rics from Canada! ;)
Please do elaborate on your tank design, I would love to see a FTS if you get a chance. I was contemplating a tank like Marte's aka Lukans where the front is slanted, giving a "top down" view as well. An open top would be killer too!
