Dear Digital Aquatics,
I have a problem with the reefkeeper. It began with an incorrect reading of water temperature followed by sparks from the outlet which led to the fuse blowing out. I have sent an e-mail to support@digitalaquatics.com. I just want to post here hoping that my problem could be addressed and resolved as quickly as possible because my tank has been dependent on the reefkeeper for so long, it's hard to do without even for a few days. Thank you.
My e-mail is hoangvn@yahoo.com.
Thank you,
Hoang Nguyen

Whoops, I just opened the power controller and found this:

The burned spot is behind outlet #1, which powered only a 24w PC bulb.

The fuse is still intact. :(
Isn't it supposed to be blown out in this type of scenario? I feel worried. What would have happened if I wasn't there to pull the plug.

I responded to your email. Often the fuse blows on the end where you could not see it.
As you stated in your email, being in the process of a water change may have been a factor. Water can be the cause this kind of failure. We will not be able to determine the cause until we see the unit. Take a look at the email I sent you and lets take a look at your situation.
This is a great opportunity to remind everyone to use drip loops with all wires on thier tanks! Water can run down a line and right to an outlet resulting in serious problems.

Or just place the RK higher than the tank, so the wires go up. Water usually will climb up a wire against gravity. :)

Very true Rich, it's always better to be safe then sorry! It's never a good idea to leave any power strip laying on the ground under your tank. Always mount them!
