Out of curiosity what light do you have above it? And how far away from the light is the cap?

Thanks guys! I few people have commented on its color before. Isn't this a common-as-muck monti cap?

Nek, IMO its red.. the second pic probably captures the color most closely.

attaboy, that's a good question. Actually its in the middle of the tank under the glass brace. If you click my website below the first pic shows the full tank and you can see a shadow in the center of the tank (I hate it). Its mainly getting light from 4 VHOs and maybe a little light from the halides (currently 250W 10K Ushios).

Cheers,
Chris

I've been quietly editing this thread from time to time. I beleive the last 2 or 3 pics are new since the original posting.

newkie,
growth is just amazing on that cap

i was looking at your 3/02 and present pictures on your web site. Seems like the march picture and current picture are really different. 3/02 is much more crowded and a bunch of the leathers and SPS are gone (or repositioned). Did you pull out a lot of live rock? trade?, frag em? RTN losses? give us a synopsis. I am always curious when some things are growing spectularly, but the reefer is also making lots of changes.

Was that a propagated coral, and if so where did you buy it?

I love the color and growth patterns. I've been looking for a place to buy one that I like, so far yours is one of the best I've seen.

is there any way i can convince you to send me and maybe scot a frag of that since both of us live in fresno/clovis.

what other frags do you have? maybe we can work out something...

Yeah, I was on vacation and things didn't go well and then had to move the system across town. I decided to part with the wall look. Also I was tired of overcrowding, I never planned for success so when things really took off I was fragging a lot. Right now I'm trying really hard to resist adding too much (I'm sorta failing :D ). The idea is to have half the amount of corals to allow them room to really grow out. Its kinda weird now, because my tank looks so much less mature, but I think it will be an awesome look! The sob story is here (http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=96242) and here (http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=107109).

Yes, it started out even smaller than the first pic. It was literally just a "flake" of a coral in the beginning. I got it from http://www.coralsandbar.com

If you're ever in town let me know. I'm not quite "there" to start shipping yet.

Gorgeous cap newk, and great growth rate pics!

Im curious though about the fish in the last picture...What type of fish is it and has it pretty much staked the cap as its home? does it seem to bother the cap?

scubadude: Thats a midas blenny. He pretty much lives in there along with a couple of neon gobies. He doesn't bother the coral as far as I can tell.

Hi Newkie,

You can go ahead and send people my way if you don't feel comfortable shipping frags from your mothercolony.

I talked to my friend (who I got your original piece from) and he's going to make me some frags on Sunday. I'll have to do it on a piece by piece basis for people since he can only make so many frags.

Thank you,

Rob

I was able to obtain 4 frags from a buddy of mine on Sunday.

Thx.

The person who started this thread's last post date 4/1/2004, in a post titled "quit job, so long America", he sold his reef and moved to Ireland.

I don't think he will be checking in. Too bad, I wanted to see how big his cap had gotten too.
