View Full Version : The most incredible SPS tank I've ever seen, 18' long

I thought Steve Weast had the best tank ever, this one definitely rivals it. I think it's 18' long with a curved front.

WOW. I knew my 300G was a nano, but now I think it is a pico.

Impressive tank!

From what I gather its not a zeovit tank, but he does use zeolite and other bacterial additives. I've been surfing a lot of European websites and from what I've seen - there are some incredible zeovit tanks, but also a LOT of tanks that utilize a form of zeo filtration. Its really interesting, and there are a lot of different methods to utilize zeolites.

It uses 6,000W of HQI and daylight!

One other thing that seemed wild - I think he replaces his sandbed! I believe Tanu (a former RC TOTM) also replaces his sandbed. Actually I guess Weast does as well if I remember right - but not all at once. Maybe Tanu can comment.

That tank is only 4 months old. That seems impossible.

The corals are nice, but Steve Weast's artful use of aquascaping is still definitely better. His tank dimensions and layout make for a very natural looking tank.

That's true but I think a tank like this gives you so much more viewable space.

All I can say is wow.

Also I is it me or is that tank made of glass? I bet the tank is bowed inward to relieve some pressure on the center of the glass. I'd hate to see how many people died trying to get that thing into the house or wherever it is.

I have talked in the past about changeing the sand to a point. What I do is everytime I make a water change every 2 weeks I clean my sand. I allow the water to settle back to a clean state which will take about 5-10 minutes of course you will lose sand. I then return that water back into my tank. Normally I lose up to 2-3 lbs of sand per month i just replace it with new sand which keeps your sand bed healthy and productive.

The wall above the tank is actually on a track system. It slides out from the tank about 3-4 feet to allow for a person to walk along the ledge on the bottom of the tank for maintenance. Pretty cool idea!

The tank is totally massive. I can't believe its made of glass. That thing had to weigh a couple of tons.

That is pretty sweet. I hate seeing pictures like that because it makes me think that my next house has to have certain features so I can include a 18' tank! So now basically I house shop with the theory, 'how big of a tank will this support, where will the fishroom go, what plumbing/electircal can I tap into'.

And it has to be glass, the glass euro-bracing, with that high-iron blue-tint on top gives it away. I also believe acrylic tanks in Europe are very very rare.

I can't stop looking at it..

Could you imagine changing the sandbed out every 2 weeks?? It must take a backhoe and a dump truck.

I need to win the Powerball so I can afford a 25,000 gallon reef. One you have to scuba in to clean and aquascape :) hehehe how cool would that be.

what kind of bacteria is utilized?

I am with NoSchwag and Amphiprion,
It is a gorgeous tank but it seems to lack the artisan quality.
It is the old "Berlin Wall" design.
But still gorgeous...and expensive. :eek1:

I see you guys mentioned Steve Weast awesome tank.Well got news that if you don't know it yet.He got a new tank running. If it's anything like his monster tank. This one I'm sure it's going to be as sweet. He is doing a "cold water reef"You will see critters, that we haven't scene before. It's already up and running. The acrylic alone is 1 inch thick. Can't wait for the preview of this.Get ready to pick up your jaw off the keyboard! Some of the fish are awesome!

I agree that Steve's dimensions are incredible, I love the width. If you take a look at all the pix of this guy's tank, the aquascaping is actually quite nice. There are a lot of islands and bridges. For the dimensions of the tank I think the aquascaping is pretty incredible.

On the zeewaterdag site check out the pix of the sun coral island. It has euphylia, SPS, sun coral and some kind of chalice. After looking at all the pix on all the sites, I get the feeling the tank is even more impressive in person. I think he uses some sort of a faux rock rear wall.

Armando

that's really amazing although the aquascaping seems outdated :) And the shelf/bar table in front of the tank doesn't seem very functional as it is too close to the tank. Perhaps if it was placed a cople ft back it would be better.

Replaced every two weeks so they said above, that sure seems like a blast ;)

Impressive no doubt, but I like Steve's deep look [and other deep-view or walkaround tanks] ... or some smaller fully grown-in tanks. Looks recently planted, in a sense.

Heck of a lot of potential, my oh my.

I don't see how it's possible to change the sandbed that often. Do you take out the corals and rocks to gain access to the sand?

They have build it so that there is easily acces tot the bottom. The bottommaterial is mostly at the front so removing is relatively easy.

Not sure on the size of it.I do know it's not as big as that monster he is running now. What I remember it runs at 60 degrees. The reason for this being 1 inch thick,is from keeping it from sweating. But his fish are really cool.Keep watching the boards. He mentioned it will be all done in a month.

Pretty cool.

I love a shallower tank with more front to back depth. Looks good!

I often wonder what some of these people do with deeper tanks when they need to get in there for something.

That is an amazing tank nonetheless. I work 3 jobs and can barely afford to build up my 29g, i need to get out of this hobby and start collecting cans instead...

Its just awsome to see all these SPS in such a young tank.
