Quick question,

Do clams need as good water quality as SPS? I have pretty good water quality, but my skimmer isnt as good as I would like. So, before I try any SPS I was thinking I could try a clam....

Quick rundown of my tank...

75G
250W Halide, 20k Coralvue bulb
1000GPH in powerheads, and another 500 in overflow...

Water quality as of about 3 days ago...
calcium-380-390 (its hard to read that siringe thing)
ph- 8.2-.3
nitride, ammo., were zero
nitrate was about 10ppm

I want somthing that will grow quick, maybe a Giga? (worst comes to worst I can trade him in for a smaller one)

i think you'll be alright. I have a Crocea, Derasa, Hippopus, Squamosa, and a Gigas and all are doing excellent under a 150 watt MH with 300 watts of VHOs. Try a squamosa first. they aren't as picky and will grow pretty quick. I might add a few different spectrum VHOs or other fluorescent lighting to complement the halide. I could be wrong, any one else?

Try the squamosa first. Start with him on bottom and then move upward every couple days...

I would suggest a Tridacna derasa first as they are very hardy! Gigas are also easy to keep but keep in mind that they grow very large and fast
