Moving a 180g

Well, the time has come. I knew eventually I'd have to move my 180g once I got a house. I am closing on my first house this month and will be moving in the Feb. I need to recruit professional help in moving my 180g reef. Who's capapible in doing this? You will have trucks and hands to help?

I am moving from a basement apartment in my moms house in East Meadow into Bay Shore. Just north of the Southern State off exit 42N. Beginning of Feb or late Jan. We are closing next week but doing alot of work so late Jan or Feb will be an aprox date. I dont have the time to do this myself. But can help some. When I changed tanks from my 90 to 180 I didnt even move houses and lost half my fish. My fiance would kill me if some of her favorite ones died.

Do you still have your old tank? Set it up in the new location with some of your rocks and move the fish first after it has established. Leave the remaining rocks and sand in the 180 or move them into a holding vat in the new location if you can get one. Transport the 180 last and make sure you have plenty of new water ready to refill it after the move. The tank may go thru a little cycle but should not be a big problem if everything is planned out.

I did something similar in 2004.

Without a date, and that far in the future, I can't promise that I'll be available, but I'll try. I'll follow this thread to see when and where. I can fit a 180 in my truck, but it's a real small bed, and the stand won't make it.

Best bet is to have some holding vats at your new house set up with water to receive rock, sand, fish, etc. and those vats would just need a heater and airstone.
Your best bet is to remove some tank water to some buckets/containers, and use that clean water for moving the fish. All too often the tank is disturbed first and you'll left with dirty water, its crucial to get some clean water out first. Also, don't feed the tank for atleast 3 days before your move so the fish can purge out.
You can then set up your tank at a "leisurely" pace.
I have some vats available if you need them, just give me as much lead time as possible.
We drain and move 80,000 gallons worth of fish in one day, so we'll be able to help.

Thank you everyone for the helping hands. I do have a 55g that I can setup first. I also have a large truck to move the tank, stand, and canapy in. The extra hands will be greatly appreciated. I will update as I have a date (weekend) in mind.

Ok, initially I was planning on moving my 180g reef from E. Meadow to Bay Shore. But I got another idea..... How about a new tank? :) Anyway, I'm figuring on 8' x 2' x 2'. Where do I begin? Anyone have any suggestions? Or should I just scrap that idea and just move what I have?

Any reason to go larger is a good one. If you have the room, I would go wider. If you can go a minimum of 30" wide, you'll never regret it.

Ok, Its now time. After alot of renovations my house is finally ready for the tank. I am planning on this Saturday, June 10th. The tank is in a basement in East Meadow - fully stocked and being moved to Bay Shore. I have a few rubbermaid garbage cans that ive been using for water. But from my pics, Im going to need alot more. Plus a few hands available that belong to people who know what they are doing. There will be plenty of food (pizza, whatever else) and beer. I'll be taking beer requests. I'd apprecaite any help I can get.

Oh yeah, there will be frags available as long as someone knows how to cut them! Alot of the coral has overgrown in the past few months.
