The flame pair! I brought these guys home from Hawaii on the plane. They were in the bag for about 14+ hours, and came in in rough shape. I think the temp on the plane got to low, high 60's maybe. So after a very slow acclimation... they have been eating greedily for the past week :)

Nice tank. Have you had any problems with algae and if so how did you get rid of it?

do you have the scientific name for the wrasse's? I would def like to learn more about them! are they readily available for trade on the mainland? they sell fish on planes?

hey all!
lights are Orbitz fixture 260 watt PC
The flame wrasses are Cirrhilabrus jordani and are endemic to hawaii only. I got a good deal on them since im friends with a local diver :)

they are from the fairy wrasse family.

i had diatom algae in the beginning but no algae at all after that. I was lucky. I added a refugium and that took care of most my problems :)

i bought the wrasses before and brought then home on the plane.. lol i didnt buy them at the airport :) They do come around sometimes but for way more then what i payed.. lol they retail for around 200 a pair i believe.

thanks for the compliments everyone! My father has done a great job while i have been away at school! :)

Hey there. Beautiful tank! Some good pixs. I had a question. I saw your Flower Pot and was wondering how long you have had it and how difficult it is to maintain? I've heard that on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being hardest, that a flower pot is a 12! I've heard they are very difficult to keep alive past a year. What kind of luck have you had with it so far? They are truly one of the most beautiful corals and I had been thinking about buying one. Thanks

TREX,

I have a goni, and an alveopora. The goni i got from a LFS here in plymouth. SHe had it in her tank for a year+ so i snagged it. My water is much cleaner then hers, and i think it actually liked hers better (dirty water)
the alveopora was doing awesome up until november (5 months after purchase) It trippled in size since i got it, but now it is bleached. Ive been away at school so i havn't been able to monitor the tank very effectively. So i've been feeding DTs and cyclopeeze 2x a week keeping calc up and dosing some iron supplements.. i hope it turns around....

But both have been pretty easy to maintain, but they do like dirtier water, thats why i feed more often.

those lights burn my orbital sockets through my eyeballs... tell me they dont look that bright and your aperature was was too open for your shutter speed...the light seems to have blasted out any color i can see in your tank.

Other than that nice coral life, and fish all look happy as can be, clean tank too!

whoah someone posted!

scout- my clowns killed both the goni and alveopora.. the male would dive bomb them and they just stopped expanding.

xirxes - the lights arent that bright. They are PC 10K and actinics, my camera just stinks :)

i actually upgraded from that tank to a 180... :-D
