I use tap water for top-off.

I have only did 1 water test since March...but i got it tested by somebody else and he said it was great water.

I have my lights on for over 12 hours.

When i first started my tank, i put a coral in after a week. The coral is happy and thriving.

I overfeed.

I made the mistake of getting an open-top tank so i always have the fear of things jumping out. So far a midas blenny and a sand sifting shrimp have been the victims. I have no idea how the shrimp gout out though >.<

I have only done 2 or 3(i think) water changes since March-April.

And i think thats it for now........by the way, my tank is fine and happy.

I spent my wife anniverary present on fish.
I rather look at my tank than go to work.
I once bounced a house payment on live rock and a new skimmer.
I cant spell too good.
I cant type too good eithier.
I fed a Damsel too death.
I like fish more than people.
My fridge quit over Christmas so I bought a new MH instead and live out of coolers.
When my Auto top off switch stuck and flooded my house I tore out the carpet and painted the concete tera cotta.
I sweat when its hot out so my electric bill wont be too high with my tank running.
All my fans are on my tank in the summer even if its 105 degrees.
My fish eat better than me.
I quit smoking so I could spend the money on water changes and filter pads ect..

As a newbie I killed more fish than a commercial fisherman.
These are my sins forgive me!

Funny thread.
I once had 4 yellow tangs in a 45. (I am bad)
I always use tap water for topoffs.
Don't own an RO unit.
I have never ever tested my water .
If they are thriving I must be doing something right (right?)
I never tall my hubby what I spent for a fish.
I buy used tanks, stick them in the storage shed, just in case.;)
Every tank but my 75 is from goodwill, garage sales or ebay.
I spend 150.00 on a mega flashlight to look at the critters in the sand after dark.
I am addicted to saltwater stuff.
I have three tanks, it isnt near enough.
I want a 125 next.
Am secretely looking for a used one, :)

I only test my water once every month

When I first got in to this hobby, I kept a dyed yellow, bleached seabae anemone in a 20gal under 30watts. With four clowns of different species (Clarkii tomato skunk and percula)...

Instead of saving money for college im spending my hard earned money on MH lighting so I can have a BTA dominant tank (inspired by all those with anemone only tanks)

I've driven a total of 5hrs (2.5 to 2.5 back) to a fish store (Dr. Macs) and spent close to three hours there

Id rather go to a fish store than the mall or movies.
The last two arent that bad XP

Im too cheap to buy the real salt.... so I just stick to the windsor..

I need some help guys... All my fish keep dying!!
I have a 100 gal FOWLR, a DIY undergravel filter that I made outta duct tape (PM for the instructions), 3lbs of rocks that I got from the garden, sand outta my neighbours kids sandbox (way cheaper then going to the fish store) the extra rocks that were in it I think might of come from his cat, but they sank right to the bottom of my tank just fine. My water from the toilet is the cleanest so I filled my tank with it in only 55000 flushes. Its all nice and blue after my wife put one of them pucks in there but my amonia levels are really high.

Anyways Im goin broke with this hobby as I cant keep any fish
If you guys could help me out Id appreciate it.
Thanks!

My very first SW tank was a 55G with a 4" dogface, 4" sweetlips, 6" volitans, 18" jeweled moray, 3" watchman goby, CCS, with around 60lbs of rock. I was going to put a brownbanded bamboo shark in it, but it died at the LFS. Then I wondered why all of them came down with ich. So I dosed heavy amounts of copper directly in the tank, and then wondered why my rock turned brown. Everything died except for the eel. I had a Via Aqua multi skimmer and a canister filter. Makes me sick. :( :mad2: :thumbdown

before i bought an ro\di, i used tap water.

for 2 years i didnt test any parameters.

ive gone as much as 4 months without a water change.

now after a year and a half i only test for calcium, ph, and alkalinity, and the alk test doesnt even give me a numerical value.

i keep a crab in an 8oz glass in my fuge (anybody want it?)

i have sps under pc's.

i just changed my pc's for the very first time on 12-30-05. the tanks almost 3 years old.

i used to have a hippo tang, 2 false perculas, 1 lawnmower blenny, 1 mandarine dragonette, and 1 purple psudochromis in a 10g tank.

when the power goes out, 10 gallons of water drains from my fuge and onto my apartment floor, and i dont care to fix it.

i left a xenia and 3 parazoanthus polyps in a 5 gallon tank with no filtration or lighting for over a year.

i let 11 of my jelly fish get sucked into a filter. XXX

i also let my mandarine swim into the filter. XXX

i might spend more time with my reef than my daughter?

i spank it everyday after work.

on the dashboard of my work truck i keep a picture of my wife, daughter, and reef tank.

i have an over-crowded 10g tank running, and a 130g system just sitting in my living room with no plans to set up.

i have only just started to keep a log of everythnig i do to the tank.

im sure the list goes on and on!.......

chrismunn
01/01/2006, 06:22 PM
also, when i buy a new coral (which i shouldnt do in my crowded tank) i cant stratigically place it anywhere cuz the tanks so crowded, so i just drop it in and let it grow where it lands.

Oh, a confession...

I've got 15 fish in my 125 and I'm gonna get at least 10 more. Including mollies and maybe guppies, so I'll end up with a million more. I've got macro algae but no skimmer. I haven't QTd for a while, so it looks like I might wipe out 25 fish within the year. If that happens, I'll probably go back to freshwater, so I can have 75 fish and only be out $20 whe I kill them all. If you don't like it, bite me!

what's a water change?

I eat puffer to get a buzz

I have to smell my collection cup every day when I empty it to gauge its effeciency

At night I sometimes suddenly awake from a deep sleep at night and go to the tank to test the water parameters and make sure the kalk drip is still going

I listen to Bob Marley while doing water changes (makes me forget its snowing outside)

I target fed an aptaisa until I found out what it was

97% of my rock is DIY

I obsess over my aquascape and am never completely satisfied with it

I went 1.5 years maintaining a reef tank (all while spilling a lot of water) without GFCI's installed

The carpet in my rented home has been soaked 8-10 times, with a total gallonage totaling approximately 40 gallons

I had to call a plumber to install my RO/DI after trying and failing myself

I wear "Reef Central" thongs to bed!

I annoy all my co-workers by updating them on whats going on with my tank when they have no idea what I am talking about. Example: - CoWorker: "Its a 12 day pay-period, I think Ill treat myself to that new shirt Ive had my eye on." My response: "Oh yeah...I can get that protein skimmer now!" Co-Worker: "What the heck is a protien skimmer?" Then after just 10 seconds of what would have been a lenghthy description-CoWorker: "Oh...umm, yeah...I forgot, I have to go type out that...umm....thing....."

If I dont like a fish I bought I put salt in my toilet bowl to an SG of 1.024, acclimate the fish to it, take a dump, let the fish sim for a few minutes, and then flush.

I cycled my first 55 gallon salt water tank with damsels.

I didnt keep the tank up and there was salt creep/ hair algae everywhere. plus the tank was about 6 inches low on water.

I kept a yellow tang,red volitan lion, snowflake eel,porcupine puffer in a 55 gallon.

I stabbed a evil crab with a screw driver atleast 10 times while he was in his rock.

Didnt test my water for about 5 months, once I did test it, it was with Petcos Wardley test kit that was atleast 2 years old.

I spent 3 days setting up my tank and everything that comes with it while avoiding my Fiancee.

That does feel better, No I can have a clean slate.

LMAO this thread is hillarious.

Lets see, I have a 6" cube - probably a sin in itself. Of course COWLR is pretty lame, so I had to add, hermit, astrea snail, a porcelain crab and a eviota goby :) I water change it maybe monthly if i'm feeling industrious. (It does however have an auto top off) Strangely, it's largely unchanged since april - works well. Now if only I hadn't been an idiot, tripled the lighting - and bleached everything.

My FOWLR - gets water changes when the nitrates hit triple digits.

I do have 3 fish in my 10g nanoreef (filamented flasher wrasse, yellow clown and a hectori's goby) and a clam. Oh, and I've been criticized for the 150w HQI over it. I don't see the issue myself

I've got a pipefish and a moray eel in the same tank and they're both fat and heck, as far as I can tell, happy too ;) .

My worst sin as far as I'm considered since this is the only one where fish actually suffered:

I performed my first water change ever today, 5 gallons.

I've had my tank running since August of 02.

I just bought test kits a few weeks ago.

Whenever I sit down to work on my thesis I get right back up again and play with the tank.

I spend much more time thinking about my tank than my girlfriend, job, or school.

Caulerpa, caulerpa, caulerpa.

Took me 3 tries to figure out just HOW TIGHT everything must fit for a young snowflake eel to not slither its way into my overflow and die.

I've been stung by lionfish about 20 times, all while working in my aquarium while drunk during my undergrad.

My brother's been stung once, didn't know it actually stung and thought he'd be silly and "pet" it. Bad reaction. Part of his finger died.

While transporting 40 gallons of salt water in a big, supposedly tough 60 gallon rubbermaid container, the container exploded and filled my Blazer with wonderful, not-so-good-for-leather salt water.

Fish can really handle their liquor.

Seaclone skimmer.

400 watt MH bulbs enjoy lighting my moonlighting on fire.

In a past apartment I had 125 watts of powerheads, a 40 watt UV sterilizer, 838 watts of lighting, and a 300 watt heater plugged into 1 non-GFCI outlet.

I forgot to rinse my pvc after priming and gluing.

I caught a damsel with stainless steel tweezers once as it was stealing mysis from a sun coral polyp.

Possibly the worst:
It's 6:36 a.m., I last woke up at 8 a.m., and I'm posting on reefcentral.

I caught my blue devil damsel with my bare hands, then I flushed his *** down the ****ter like he deserves!

I have a purple tang in my 40g :hides:

I used tap water for topoff in the begenning, now I have an RO unit.

sometimes i will run without a skimmer for weeks on end

I havent done a water change in 3 months now, and the tank likes it more than ever.

I dont feed any phyto to any of my corals

Thoes spines on their cheeks..

Ok I have a few confesions..

I also used a net on a maroon.....more than once....

I used to feed my aptaisa, because I thought it was cute.....I knew what it was though....

I loved my blue damsel :D

I used to have a ting blue tang in my 46 gal. I was planning on returning it to the LFS when it got to big, but every time i got rid of the ich in Qt he would get it in the main tank so i gave him back to the LFs anyways.

I only did one water change on the 46 gal, and that was because i woke up the the tank was all white and super cloudy

I didnt use Ro water only tap on the 46 gal, but the alaska water was really good..

I used the dip strips to test my water, because I'm lazy and don't like to wait for thoes vials to get done doing whatever they do.

I use a hydrometer.........I'll get a refracto.....eventually....:D

I have 20 fish in a 100g including 2 purple tukas
I've been running skimmerless for 2 mo. & and will for at least another month
Are you supposed to test for phospates? :D
I love my 3 damsels
I usually only run 2 175 w 14,00ks on the tank (without turning on the 440w VHO's) because it looks prettier
I put a sock in about 5 mo ago and haven't ever removed or cleaned it

Have also netted my Maroon clown...several times

Tried to "fish" out a Lunar Wrasse with a hook and line

Haven't done a water change in my 125 in 2 months

Haven't tested water in 125 or 92 in 3 months

Put Mandarin in 125 2 months after I set it up.....I have two and they are both alive and well ...it has been over a year.

When the power goes out my reeftanks have full power from my generator, but nothing in the house does.

I never ever for any reason tell my husband the truth about the cost of my sickness..I mean hobby

I have paid for a coral over the phone so my son could pick it up for me before someone else could get it.

I have an awsome aquarium journal that i quit keeping because I was afraid my hubby would go through the reciept pocket ......it could be used as evidence against me in divorce court, when he decided to leave me because I am a reef addict

I never wear gloves when working in my tank.

I have caulerpa in my fuge

I use my fuge as fishy-time-out

I hide "stuff" in my fuge from my spouse

I have ruined at least 10 of my husbands screwdrivers, pliers, and hammers using them for fragging then not cleaning them.

I have all my on-line orders sent to my office, so I can run home over a long lunch and acclimate my new corals, so my husband won't see them

I covet the tank of many of my fellow reefers

I use the Lord's name in vain on may occasions when dealing with my tank

I lie on a regular basis about the cost, time and upkeep my tank takes

I know and accept that the only person I am trying to decieve is myself

I also accept that I am powerless to stop my sickness and quite frankly have no desire to do so.

Also I believe that I have turned my life over to a higher power.....in that I mean higher power bills

Forgive me as I am sinner

hehehehe, funny ones on here. Lets see, I've put a fish in my small fuge as a time out, tried to force a clown to host in an anemone :( use a plastic dustpan over my fuge light so it doesnt spill in my tank. I enjoy watching my lion chase the damsels in the tank.

I love all of these,
I have another admission. I have a t5 fixture with no fans.
I have to run a fan off from the side of the tank to keep it cool, as seen in the picture.
Another is. I just bought a $3.99 picture behind glass and put it over my $5.000 tank, hehehehe.
Large shell to the left of tank is from Goodwill as is the little fan behind it that blows the heat away from the light fixture.
The little painting of the
Sea and the Clowns by it on the wall and the I love Cats plaque are from Goodwill also.
Oh and I love to boil aptasia . Makes my day complete

Gosh I love that place.;).

I once bought a naso tang from the lfs and it died one day after the warranty run out. I froze it untill they got a new naso tang in, about a week or two later. I went back and bought the new tang and they took the frozen one back with the new receipt (un-thawed of couse). I got store credit, but I felt better.........just kidding

I killed over 6 fish when I first started out and had a horrible ick problem! I tried like 50 medicines (not-copper based) and none worked, finally got a UV steralizer, worked like a charm. Also, don't test as much as I should.

The first word said by my daughter was: "fish". I've never told my wife that I've had spent countless hours in front of the tank with my daughter repeatedly saying "fish" - until she finally said it.

I then acted like I was surprised when my daughter spontaneously said "fish"and pointed her finger at the tank in front of my wife ;-)

Man that felt good!

My first reef was a 45gal tall tank. (Rock slide)
I used an undergravel filter with a sponge filter.(I wonder why I couldn't keep the nitrates down?)
I used tap water for years.
I over feed.
I'm always either working on my tank, at a LFS or on Reef Central.
My wife is jealous of the tank, I think she should get over it.
My Coral banded shrimp is so big and starting to look tasty!
Sometimes I think about fishing in my tank for fun.
I tell my wife that every piece of equipment and live stock was on sale for $10.00.

My tank is worth more than my car and if I could drive it to work I'd be a happy man.

It's amazing I stayed in the hobby after getting such bad advice from my LFS.

Started college and neglected the tank for like 2 years. Did maybe 5 water changes over that period of time. Needless to say everything died except a few fish. Only fed flake food and brine. Had a way undersized skimmer that was broken anyway. Tried to keep anemones under only stock fluorescents.Tried to do things cheap. Hardly ever tested anything. Used tap water...

I've started over scince then. In December of last year I tore everything down, did 10 20% water changes and 1 50% change. Got all params in check. Made my trickle filter a fuge, bought MH lighting and got an ASM G-2. Bought all Salifert tests and keep a weekly log of test results. Restocked corals and everything looks great. I will not make the same mistake twice!

This site is the best resource there is!

I haven't done a waterchange for a month and a half (waiting to get an RO/DI), but the algae has gotten better!

I HAVE SINNED!

1) I don't do any rountine water testing except for SG, and that's only when when mixing new water.

2) I feed all my fish only 1 small frozen cube every other day. I cube total for : 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Hippo Tang, 1 GSM clown, 1 Fridmani dottyback, 1 YWG, 1 mandarin, 2 true percs, and 1 six-line wrasse.

3) I have an adult Yellow Tang and Hippo Tang in a 75gal with 4 other fish

4) I don't quarrantine new arrivals

5) I used a Marc Weiss product and still think it's fantastic

6) I keep a fighting conch in a BB fuge

7) I haven't spent any cash on aquarium dry goods or livestock in 6 months. I keep trading xenia for store credit.

And the biggest sin of all:

8) I spend more time on other non-aquaria sites than Reef Central
