Hi All

I have a large T deresa clam that appears to have broken its back.
The two halves do not meet as they used to and its lop sided.
It has been like this 3 days now.
I have put a photo in the clam gallery(unsure how to link it to the thread)
My question is can it be repaired or will I end up loosing it?
when the lights go out i will take a photo of it closed to show you what i mean.
I haven't touched it yet waiting for experts desisions on what to do.

Happy Reefkeeping :D

I have never really dealt with that before but I'd say get it as close to normal looking as you can, maybe heap some sand on the sides to help keep him from moving too much and concentrate on keeping all your parameters at optimal. Give him some time. I'm sure someone has more experience with this. you might try to PM Barry. He might have some insight.
Goodluck

if thats the pic you are talking about then i can say because i cant see the shell.

it does look like its gaping, never good with a Derasa.
can you get a few good pics of the hinge of the shell and a few of the foot or bottom of the clam?

try propping some rocks on the side of the clam, just to hold it in place. i seen them heal up from this before so time will tell

good luck

keep us posted

Hi All
You may be pleased to hear the clam seems to have repaired itself.I took mbbuna's advice and propped it up then left it.
It has now realigned itself and looks great again.
Thanks for the tips.
