What is the best wat to cut a toadstool approx 15 in across. should I just cut off the base and then cut the top into good size pieces, also how fast do they heal and regrow stems.

if you do this, you will see new polyps on the "stem" part in no time, but it will definitely take awhile to re-grow a capitulum of 15", thats for sure.
You could just use a brand new razor and slice pieces off the cap and let them attach (with rubber bands, or monofilament/fishing line) to new rocks, and in a few months time, they will be little clones of the mother colony.

So you're saying not to cut the entire toadstool, but just the cap?

If i've read right, you cut the cap off, then cut the cap into pie slices, glue or rubberband to a peice of rubble, and your done.

(what is done to the stalk)

the stalk will grow a new capitulum or top. I would just take a large piece off the back side of the cap. It will curl under and scar over and grow in a month or so.

so your sayin to just hack (a clean cut) a big section off of the cap, and attach it to a peice of rubble, and thats it?

yes, preferably with a new, clean razor blade, just cut the whole cap off, or a piece and attach it to another rock and it will grow into a whole new coral colony for you to keep, trade, or sell

So I did this three weeks ago and the polyps on the new frag still have not extended. Any ideas ? ? ?

Also what is the growth rate for sacrophyton's ?

the growth for leathers varies, depending on your water quality and lighting, but not to worry about the polyps, I am sure the frag is fine, otherwise, it would have fallen apart already
give it some more time and they will come out

I actually picked up a peice of toadstool today from a club member who sliced her cap up into 12 different peices.

After some super glue gel, the piece looks as though nothing happened.

I cut a ring around the head on my toadstool and then cut those into smaller pieces. Just take about 2" or more from the outside edge and cut around.
