I was wondering what brand bulbs run best on standard magnetic ballast. I was looking at the reefflux 10K or the 12K. I use to have a hamilton electronic ballast but after so many electronic ballast burn outs I had hamilton switch my ballast box to a standard magnetic ballast. I am currently running a 10K german Hamilton bulbs and they are 15 months old and need replacing. Would the reeflux work okay on it or is there something better?

You should be fine. The lamps will look nice. I run them on PFO HQI ballasts but a friend runs his on standard PFO magnetic ballasts. Both look nice.

I was told today by http://www.reefexotics.com/
that the Reeflux lamps will not fire on a M57 ballast
Is anyone using them on a M57 ??

isn't a M57 a 175W mag ballast? If so, then either he mispoke or you misheard. I was just running ReefLux 12K's on 2-M57's

I do believe there are sevral Mag 175 W ballasts
He did say it would not fire on the M57 -either will the new Ushio 20K+ From what I am told
E-A-G-L-E-S how did you like the look of the reeflux ?why did you change & waht do you use now?
I am using a blueline 10K+ It is Very Blue I love it BUT the PAR is in the dumps on this lamp so I am looking for a BLUE lamp to work with my M57

i am 99% sure that i was running 2-Advance M57 mag ballasts in a CustomSeaLife box with my 12K's.
I liked the look of the them...blue/purple/white
I bumped to 250W's for my growing SPS collection:)
i'm running them on e-ballasts and the 12K's are white/blue

Also got a reply from coralvue
"Hello

The ReefLux 10K bulb is not nothing else on the market. The bulb has a crisp
white appearance to it, but what is unique about this lamp is that it has a
large spike in the 450nm range which is a blue spectrum. This is what gives
corals a great color. The Reeflux gives you the best of a 10K lamp for
growth and a 20K for color. It is the Ultimate reef lighting bulb.

The M57 will fire the ReefLux lamps, but I do not recommend using it with
that ballast. The problem is that the ReefLux need a large output voltage to
fire them. The M57 does not have the punch to always fire the RL. If your
capacitors are new than you can try it out. I would recommend you try a
eballast for these bulbs so you can get the full benefit of the light
output. The M57 will not drive the bulb to its full power.

Let me know if we can help.

I have three of the Reeflux 12k's sitting at home along with Lumenarc reflectors. I just received them and plan on switching out my ROIII's w/ Phoenix 14K's with these. I will be running them of SLS BW VII ballasts. Should be a nice change :)
