I have a 2 1/2 foot snowflake eel that I need to get out of a tank I am taking down. He eats well (2-3 jumbo shrimp per feeding), but is blind as a bat. The tank has about 100 lbs of live rock in it, I was thinking of stuffing him so he doesn't bite, removing as much rock as possible, then trying a pool net to catch him.

Anyone have any experience or tips on catching large morays?

Thanks,
Ken

For Pete's sake, reach in and grab him. Didn't you ever watch the crocodile hunter show? Crykie!!!!

Here is a good thread on getting fish & inverts out of a display tank: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=707656

Good luck,

use some dive gloves(if u have) and gloves that are ok in water and grab him.

depending on the length of his teeth they could go thru a dive glove, been there, done that, and have the scars to prove it:D

I was in the same boat once, lure him out with food and since they are so blind he won't see the net comming behind him. Just do it fast before he knows what's comming, but he will try to jump out when taking him out of the water! so watch out!
