provided the frags are healthy and your water quality is good, it shouldn't take more than 1-2 weeks for either to attach.
leathers sometimes go through phases where they withdraw and slough off outer skin, especially when getting acclimated to a new tank.
if the leather dies, its flesh will rot and dissintigrate in a matter of days.
I prefer to sell my frags already attached for just these reasons.

From my experience, the best way to buy frags is attached to a rock and not just newly glued, but have been stable on the rock for awhile. Best chances for survival and acclimation.

yes i agree with happyreefer above that the coral will be happier and healthier
i also agree with sharky that it will take a few weeks before it attaches, so patience with that, and good luck
