Sally Lightfoot Crab - Shed Skin?

Do these crabs shed their skin in a perfect mold? I haven't seen him in a couple of days and all of the sudden I saw him looking kind of pale, hanging on a rock... then I saw him AGAIN a few minutes later right next tom himself!! I know crabs molt... but I didn't know they shed like a shrimp... leaving a perfect mold of themselves... Is this what happened? I know I don't have 2 in there...

Yes, they will split along the back of the carapace and pull themselves out.

cool, thanks. i thought he was dead or dying and then i saw him right next to himself. freaked me out!! :-)
tank is around 8 mos old and i'm just now starting to find stuff that i didn't put in there (there was a tiny star fish on the glass yesterday that i've never seen before) and i was thinking... was there a tiny one in there and i had no idea!!??
